Just received my vehicle tax reminder £345! Maybe it's just as well I haven't bought a new van costing more than £40k.
Now every time I suggest that the cost of having the camper is too high, SWMBO starts to quote the cost of a B&B and eating out. I dare not even suggest not going away.
Ah well, there goes my pension again.

Can be cheaper to stay in a Premier Inn, certainly the case at Bath (the campsite has now closed).
Yes an overnight stay at a Premier Inn can be cheaper than taking the caravan, especially if towing the caravan causes the car to use more fuel. Ours doesn't fortunately, or not noticeably anyway, but we have still done it on the odd occasion.

It's a while since I've used Premier inn, and it's never been cheaper than a camp site. I suppose it depends very much on location and time.
There's also the cost of having to eat out.
The point Mrs.L makes is that if you are going to do a lot of travelling and spend nights away, it's still cheaper to use the van - and anyway, it's a lifestyle choice.

We looked at Premier Inn for visiting family at Christmas, £140ish a night 😦
Nearest CAMC site closed.
Local CL booked.
Most hotels put their prices up at Christmas and other major holiday times. At other times you can book in for a third of that price. We have used them a few times over the past couple of years, just for the odd night. I wouldn't do it for more than that but there are times that it saves a lot of fiddling about.
------------- Best Regards,
Colin
