Contributed to the cats in garden topic, now starting my own on the moles in mine!

I clear up the molehills, then they are back again in exactly the same place, throwing up more after a week or so. It seems they have a run underneath my lawn and go in a circuit on a regular basis.

An old chap round the corner said he put paid to his with Jayes Fluid! But I'm reluctant to use that method as it sounds very cruel.

Any suggestions? I've heard the sonic type repellers are no good.

Could always do what our neighbour did. Stopped up all the molehill holes he could find, filled the runs with gas then blew them up. Entertained the neighbours no end. Interesting sight seeing parts of the lawn lift up then settle back. Unfortunately didn't get rid of the Moles. If you get rid of one another soon takes over the runs

Jeyes fluid doesn't kill them, it just sends them packing due to it's horrible smell, good thing is it sterilises your soil.

My late Father in law used mothballs, it's certain smells they don't like.

Dig a hole were you see were they have been, just big enough to put a mouse trap in. then cover the hole with soil, Put a plant pot over this, leave for a few days, see wot you have caught.

You can buy a mole trap from any farm type shop Countrywide etc. They don't cost much and are very effective. You should be able to find plenty of info on how to use it on the internet.

I'll give this one a whirl for starters - thanks, Geetee!! I have some mothballs in.. they didn't get rid of the mice in the shed, but here goes with the moles!

Jeyes fluid next... I really don't want to use traps, I'd rather just encourage them to leave my garden!

You can use humane mole traps, but to be honest it's hard to catch them, we have them on and off front and back garden, we used a mole repellent, that you put in watering can, then spray it from edge of molehills away from you garden, it worked out the front, but as we have fields behind back garden it was pointless, so we just put the soil on the garden and wait for them to move out

I've been waiting for these to just move on or out, but they just seem to go round and round - I put the soil on the garden - a week later there's another huge molehill in the same place!

According to hubby a regular supply of ferret pooh works within a week or 2. So all you need is a couple of pet ferrets lol

Get hold of some of those kiddies windmills and put in the ground, the moles dont like the vibrations apparantly and move on - or do what my Dad did, put a shortish stick in the ground and put a bottle (2ltr coke bottle size) upturned on the pole, seems to do the same thing - moles did not stay around long.

Simple answer is to just ask your local mole catcher to get rid of your moles rather than pouring chemicals into to soil, turning the garden into something like a set from the teletubbies (windmills and music) or starving a mole to death in a so called humane trap (moles need a set of feeding tunnels to survive as they have to heat nearly their own body weight in worms and other grubs each day). They are also delicate little creatures that die easily from shock if handled. A professional trap correctly set will kill the mole instantly and is the most humane method.
