wowwwwwwwwwwweeeee expensive or what! deep heat will do more. checked the ingreients out and offers nothing for pain relief, why not buy him a tens machine works wonders and no drugs involved

Depends on what’s causing the pain. My back pain, when I get it, is because I’ve put my pelvis out of alignment by overreaching or picking up something heavy without core strength preparation etc. So I go to a qualified physiotherapist (not a chiropractor) who used to be the physio for an ice hockey team. In that instance, lotions & potions & tablets act on the symptoms, not the causes, and aren’t effective.
Voltarol can be helpful if the cause of the pain is not musculoskeletal. It comes in different strengths & GPS in NZ recommend it.
If the pain is due to osteoarthritis, a cream isn’t going to repair the damaged joint. Only the right exercise can help until the joint has to be replaced.

Thanks both, he had a tens machine, didn't seem to do much. It's inherited from his Mum, his sister had it, and 2 of his nephews. Both rheumatoid and osteoarthritis.

I’m not a GP but my sister in NZ has a pain control program specifically for her osteoarthritis in her hip; doesn’t seem to happen in UK.
But why don’t you get the Advance 7 to try; it might work. If it doesn’t work for us, that might be because we don’t have the same conditions as your OH.
My mum had major back issues, tried a Tens machine, it didn’t help at all. Anyway, turned out her back pain was the breast cancer coming back as secondary cancer.

I have osteo in my wrist, with wielding lump hammers for years. Nothing can be done, so i live with it. The mrs has rheumatoid in many parts of her body. Only 'Methotrexate' allows her to function normally. Cold temps has a massive effect on both types.

Looked at the Advance 7 website, mainly a bit of clever marketing, the products contain some ingredients that may have a small anti inflammatory effect. The quoted 'study' doesn't seem to be against placebo so is unlikely to prove anything.
Positive effects are likely to be related to the massaging of the sore area rather than the ingredients.

I have spina bifida occulta (hidden Spina bifida). A result of being born before there was the advice for pregnant women to take folic acid. It is where the spine has abnormal curvature and gaps in the vertebrae. I was diagnosed as a pre-teen and have had constant daily muscular back pain for over 40 years. It can be a bit debilitating now and again but I'm used to it. I don't play on it or "use" it but I am careful. I don't consider it a disability but when I say constant pain, I do mean 24/7. It is just variable and I'm used to it and can manage it without painkillers.
Back pain can be very hard to find the source and can be muscular or skeletal or both. It is always best to get a medical opinion. What you may think is due to something in your shoulders could be due to a lower back problem and vice versa.
Basically it looks like all that stuff is a deep heat type cream. It may give temporary relief and reduce a bit of inflammation but is expensive for what it is. The best results for my condition have been muscle relaxants which I stopped taking 40 years ago when I was 17 ( they interfered with going to the pub) Pain management, float chambers and sports massage. Volterol has never done a thing but has helped sore knees. Deep heat and tiger balm etc are more of a placebo than anything else.
All the successful remedies target the muscle and the best was sports massage. Not any fancy Bali or Thai massage but massage from a trained therapist. It left me feeling bruised but the effects lasts weeks. I am also on the waiting list for physio for my shoulders, a knock on effect of the SBO. While waiting I have been doing mild exercises using small weights as recommended by the consultant. The sports therapist also recommended mild stretching exercises.
I would advise not to go down the Dr Google route but to get proper advice, however my own experience was not that encouraging when a young orthopedic had to google Spina bifida occulta. I suppose there are less people with it these days and getting a good expert is a lottery.

Basically if it was supposed to be so good, why aren't doctors recommending it? Too many quack medications out there that probably do more harm than good so be careful.

I was going to the pub at 16
Took me a year to work out the tablets were interfering with the pints.
