Sadly I had to give my Sindy away when my mum decided that I was too old for her.   Later on I bought myself a very basic one, so that I had a model for my clothes - wonder if she is still in the bags of wool I have.

I had a Golliwog when I was young, are we still allowed to mention them?   []

Yes!!!

My mother had dementia and just before she died (two years ago) she told us she wanted a golliwog for Christmas. Knowing all about todays political correctness we wondered how on earth we were going to get one for her.

It was easy.... Ebay. After we got her one on there we saw them everywhere we went.

She took it everywhere she went, wrapped up in a shawl.

I had several Sindy's and Tressy & Pippa too but Sindy was my favourite. Me and my DS used to build houses for our dolls out of old cardboard boxes and decorate them with old wallpaper and birthday cards. Action man used to come and visit but I think he preferred to hang out in his mess tent with the guns.

I think she is too demur to today's market unfortunately. I cannot stand all the tarty dolls that you get now.

I have just found all my Sindy dolls (about 6 of them). They must be about 40 years' old and I can't believe what good condition they are in. Only 1 Barbie in the box as I was definately a Sindy fan. Also in the box was a Tressy, and the Pippa Doll Marie all in their original outfits. And I have handed them all over to my daughter to play with and keep. And perhaps pass on to her daughter one day. Could have sold them on Ebay but I'd rather let me daughter enjoy and play with them. One's already had a hair cut! UH... I will try and keep calm...Sorry Ebay you're still not having them.

Oh no, I had 2 Sindy's when I was younger. I had a very basic one when I was about 5 or 6 that just had a pair of boots and an A line dress with a ribbon belt.

I then got a ballerina sindy when I was a bit older (7 or 8 maybe) and it came with a stand which was like a caliper for you to put one of her legs in. I remember this one because I broke both her ankles in a matter of hours. I think they had wire in them or something. I was in fear of telling my Mam and Dad incase I got told off, so she didn't do much 'feet pointing' from then on.

I remember her silky bobbed hair which I used to meticuously curl under then rub my finger down it to feel how silky it felt.

I also did have a barbie the year after the ballerina sindy, but I remember thinking she looked a bit too 'pointy' and not smooth like sindy.

In my previous career I used to have Barbie as my stress relief toy and she lived in my drawer with lots of clothes to dress her up in and she got dressed whatever the weather. The girls even insisted that she came on my Hen weekend, so she had quite an interesting weekend in Dublin.

Once I left that job to start my new career, she was left in my old department and apparently she still resides around the office, happily being changed and posed at will.
