I stopped selling on ebay after a longwinded and ludicrous dispute with a buyer.
Had a big clear out at home a while ago, and listed a number of electrical appliances for sale on the site. As I had recently lost a relative to cancer, I chose to donate 100% of the proceeds to Cancer Research UK through the ebay/paypal charity donation scheme.
All but one item went through smoothly, the buyer was happy, I was glad of the extra space in the house and the charity benefited.
The last item, which had been tested at the buyers request before he bid, was collected and I thought that was it. The money left my account and went to the charity. About a week later, I get a message through ebay from this guy complaining that the item wasn't fit for purpose as it didn't do what he expected. Notwithstanding that I had included the full model number and manufacturers specifications in the listing!! I politely refused, so he opened a paypal dispute claiming to have been mislead about the item.
I replied in detail to ebay/paypals dispute resolution team that I hadn't mislead him, had in fact provided more than sufficient detail (we are talking idiot proof here!), even tested the item at his request and had no reason to mislead anyone as all the funds had gone to charity through them! And guess what, they still found in his favour!!! Christ only knows how they managed to find me at fault, but as we all know they are a law unto themselves.
Now I just use ebay for the occasional convenient purchase and balls to the rest of it. They've really left a sour taste in my mouth.

Hi I have a business on ebay,selling jewellery,love to tell you the shop name but I suppose it is classed as advertising on here.There are some strange people believe I know,but the good ones outweigh them,I get some lovely messages from people,yes I have had 3 negs,one I am sure from a rival? but you just have to take it,it is impossible to please everyone.Keep selling,ebay is fun and the funny people are few and far between.Just a quick bit of advice for everyone on here who sells on ebay and may let the buyer collect the item,just write or type the following on a piece of paper(this is an example only) I can confirm that I have collected the 9ct Gold Ring from ****** (seller name) Signed Mr Smith (buyer name) This is just a safe way of confirming the buyer has received the item (applies moreif people pay by paypal and then collect item,as there is no proof buyer has sent it and buyer can claim no receipt) Keep smiling summer is on the way..

well, if you are a "veteran" seller with lots of regular sales then feedback may not be that important. In my case, I've just opened an ebay account for my shop to sell bits and bobs and do a bit of stock clearance. I'm only allowed to list 10 items per month at the moment, and positive feedback is vital for a newbie in order to progress up ebay's ranks and increase the numbers of items that I will eventually be able to list, not to mention giving a bit of confidence to potential buyers when they come across a new seller.
So yes, at the moment every positive feedback I get are like drops of water in a desert and I rely on them heavily, and it's highly frustrating when a buyer doesn't bother (it's happened already).

Agree with the above I recently sold 10 items and got feedback on just 2 items so now have a feedback score of 8 against a possible 16.
My feelings are that ebay got it wrong when they stopped sellers leaving negative feedback, the charges are/have got too high.
Have noticed ebay are doing a lot of tree insertion fee weekends, I wonder why that is

oh yeah, I did register as a business account, I did things by the book, can't risk getting in trouble with ebay from the beginning . I've noticed that the fees for a beginner are the same (if not more in a couple of cases!) as for a private, they are only lower when you open a proper shop and take at least their basic subscription, which I can't do yet. I'll just have to sit on the fence, be patient, do my best at customer service and hope for the best for the next few months. It seems to me, by reading all the posts on this thread, that ebay are really making it very hard for sellers these days (old and new alike) to trade!
