You have the whole of winter to recover more, after your operations.  It give you time to become fitter.

There is a few positive posts, from those or who know someone who has gone through the same as you. knowing how they recovered and carried on.

Be positive.

Don't suppose any one on here has a fast fix for this pile of trouble I'm in.

You have had the fast fix its called a triple bypass what your feeling now is the normal mind and body shock to a major trauma it takes a while to feel human again (in my case about 6 months)you will find the biggest problem will be trying to do to much to soon when you start feeling better.

IF it helps I had 4 small HA and then a massive one only survived because I was in A & E at the time that was ten years ago, since then I have been camping ,canoeing, touring in Spain and hiking up to 6 miles a day ok I'd be lying if i said i can do all that as normal I have to take breaks and sleep a lot but then I also have a lot of muscle damage to the heart after so many HA.
Many people who have had only one HA get back to normal or feel fitter because they did not realise their heart was not functioning fully before the bypass was done so chin up and keep taking the tablets

im not suggesting at this stage you do the same but try to be positive and look ahead for better days, it will come.
take care and our best wishes to you for the future.

Hi Tartan, My mother and an uncle both had by pass ops years ago, both now well into their seventies. Just do as the Doctors and more importantly as E says and you will be fine.

Keith and I will be over to see (annoy) you as soon as our colds have gone. That should help make things feel normal again.

On the bright side....

You are still alive and you remember just how much your wife loves you!

After I had a bad accident in 2007, my wife and kids were very supportive. before the accident I felt neglected and unloved. But I was wrong. Near death experiences can show you who really cares about you.

Mind you if my wife had known where I hid the insurance policy, things may have been different

My workmate went through the same as you about 18 months ago and got well quickly. He is now as fit as a butchers dog, compaired to how he was pre op.He was 57 when he got the op.
As most folks are saying just give it time, you will improve each day..now its fixed.

Take things easy, getting plenty of rest.   Do not try to do too much - just one step at a time.   Look at things not as a whole but in small bite sized pieces.
Don't look at things in a negative way - instead of thinking oh dear I can not get to the supermarket so had to go to the local shop instead - think I got to the local shop today - that's good.

I'm a few weeks ahead of you, had my triple bypass 5 weeks ago.  Like you I always thought I was fit and well so it was a shock to be told I needed a bypass but also explained why I was short of breath and tired all the time.  I didn't have a heart attack but have been waiting all year for diagnosis and operation.  Recovery at times seems very slow but this is quite a major operation 17  I began to notice the difference in what I can now do at the beginning of this week so am feeling much more positive.  I start rehab next week which I am hoping will boost me further and enable me to do even more. My  husband has been brilliant in reminding me of the small steps and achievements I have managed.  I can now walk for 20 mins including some uphill and hold a conversation at the same time - amazing!  Take it easy TT,  do something everyday, you will get there as I am sure I will too.

Lol . I've had a lung disease for 8 years that's tried to kill me . Got that sort of under control and 2 years ago started feeling worse so investigation hmmm it's my heart packing up . I have dilated cardiomyopathy . I've felt like I was slowly dieing and was getting no help from cardiolgy at my local hospital so I got a second opinion at northern general . I now have a very special pace maker witch has totally changed things and given me a new lease of life . I could still be facing a heart transplant in future but hopefully not for a while .

I'm forty allways been fit never smoked and not a big drinker . No life style changes for me
Youve been given a masive second chance don't waste it . The alternative is you wouldn't be asking any questions on here . Think about it . Then get on and enjoy your life .

Rob

Robnchar, I was intrigued to see that you appear to camp all the year round, that is what we try to do, and by looking at your profile and seeing the great picture of your tent in the snow also discovered that you have had health problems. Hope you are well now. I attend a local gym and there are only two older men apart from myself who have not been diagnosed with a health problem. That means that the rest are there because the doctors have encouraged them to take exercise. These men range in age from 55 to 75 and the positive thing is that they keep on appearing and say they feel better. I am 75 and although I have no idea what is round the corner feel incredibly lucky to have got this far and to be able to do what I do. My 69 year old wife works full time in a demanding job and this is the only thing that restricts our camping activiity. I really feel that we should 'make hay while the sun shines' and camp as much as possible. Best wishes, Roy
