Thanks for your comments and sharing your experiances everyone, at least now i have got my husbands sister on my side and informed of the situation, and he has always listened to her advice in the past. She agrees that he may need medication to help him with this problem, but is also well aware that hes the kind of man whos stubborn at taking any tablets other than painkillers, and will often leave off a course of antibiotics as soon as he starts to feel a bit better, rather than completing the course.

The plan of action is to go and see his Gp one day next week, but to try and get to see one who may be more sympathetic than last time I spoke to one about him a few months ago (multi doctor practice, with no set rules of who you see at an appointment, except if they instruct that they are to follow up something theirselves) The only advice i got then was to keep out of his way when hes in one of his 'moods', which being as im not very mobile is not always easy, especially when he drives off in the car with my mobility scooter in the boot!

The hardest part is getting him to see that he has a problem, hes in denial, despite everyone around him being able to see this problem clearly.

Julia

Glad to see you've got your sil on side Julia and she's aware of situation, hopefully she'll be able to help in some way even if it's only to try and talk some sense into your hubby and get him to realise he's got a problem.

Incidentally, look out for an FAO from me in the general section - I'm hoping you may be able to come up with some suggestions for me regarding Norfolk but it won't be fair of me to ask on this thread.

What a difficult situation for you. It could be one of many things causing the sudden temper outbursts. My normally very mild tempered dad suddenly started having outbursts of yelling and bad temper, it was such a shock to the family. Turned out he'd had an ischemic attack (initially they thought it was a brain tumour). Thankfully after medication he is now back to normal - this was about 5 years ago. Best of luck to you x

Sorry to read your post, been through similar in our relationship with my OH presenting with similar behaviours- although the root cause was alcohol probs with him. My heart goes out to you. Take each day at a time - you sound such a supportive person - but don't neglect your own needs. Hoping things take a turn for the better soon, wishing you well.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. Dad has mixed dementia which is a bit of a slow burning dementia. It was only his erratic out of character behaviour when mum was terminally ill that we realised something was quite wrong with dad. I would also advise that he gets his urine checked for a uti which can also cause erratic behaviour, mum had one so severe it mimicked a stroke!! If it is dementia then medication may work, dad had aricept and for a while he went back to almost normal but sadly he got a bad chest infection and it stopped working and his new meds are less effective.   So lots of hugs to you but there are effective treatments out there xx. Although I wouldn't rule out depression either sounds like he's very stressed/frustrated too
