hi i bought this one had it about a month http://www.maplin.co.uk/720p-journey-recorder-625685 & already proved a great buy when our nutter of a neighbour was threating to kill me all caught on video & police could not belive what they seen, because they were saying it was 50 / 50 & we were as mutch to blame as they say the camera never lies,
Ideally the camera could monitor front, sides and rear to allow for the idiots that come from any direction - for example, you're stopped at lights, someone hits you from behind, and then claims you reversed into them....

I'll look at the one I have, it uses an sd card so just plugs into most card readers and continuously records on a 60 minute cycle I think from memory, this means you never miss anything, the type that come on after a bang or sharp braking dont often catch the cause as by the time you brake what caused it has already happened etc, the continuous ones catch everything and records in HD, and I think was less than £80
i can only go on what i have experienced & found the maplins one great piece of kit you have to buy & read the instructions a few times & play with it to get to know how it all works i bought mine because it was recomended by a ambulance driver who was buying a second one for his wife car & found it very reliable infact i will be buying a second one for my other car, & most of this type of item will effect most gps systems but i dont have a gps so no problems. i use a 16gb sd card. the original one i went to buy was this model The Novus BlackVue £199.99 so saved on the maplins one.
anyone who owns a apple iphone can download apps like this one at a cost of £0.69p

What is it? A black box-type video recorder that
creates a record of your journey, which can then be used as evidence in the
event of an accident, or even as a track-day memento.
How does it
work? The Witness Driving app creates a video record of your car
journey viewed through the windscreen. It uses a rolling loop to record video in
segments, which means you never run out of memory. The vehicle's speed and
location are also displayed on the screen, using an unobtrusive overlay. If the
app detects a heavy impact, it will stop recording to ensure the impact video is
preserved if you're unable to manually save it. There's also a section to record
photos and witness details from the scene of an accident.
I have just got a Tao Tronics one from Amazon for £29 and with a 16gb sd card £35 odd in total. Arrived today , so will fit tomorrow. Records on a cycle, I set mine to 15 minutes, saves it and does another 15 mins and so on till card full, then overwrites the first 15 minute recording.
I've just downloaded the 'witness driving' app for the android, looks pretty good so will try it tomorrow, if it works as it says it does it's a bargain at .69p ! and saves having two devices on the go, phone can do it all.
