Kimmie, If your OH has applied to work for an Agency. He will need to wait to see if he has been accepted . If he is, then they will apply for the forms. He will then need to fill these in, along with identification. The Agency will fill in their bits on the form, photocopy his ID stuff, then send it off. Once he has received his certificate, then he can start work. Then your OH can work anywhere were the company sends him. It will last for 12 months, It will be a waste of money doing it yourself. heath63

Madz, It doesn't work like that. If someone does voluntary work and needs to have a CRB check. They cannot use that check for other work. They still need a seperate check done. heath63
Heath it does for some jobs.
I know because thats what my husband has done, the company will start you on that enhanced CRB then do more checks later. This varies depending on companys and agencies. In my husbands field the companys expect the CRB to be done by him first. His Current work is something for a Government agency. He also holds his own disclosure Scotland although some companys expect a second disclosure Scotland. He has worked some roles on his Scouting enhanced CRB and a disclosure Scotland. A lot of agency roles expect you to go in with those documents in your hand plus a passport before they will consider paying out for another check. Some companys/ agencys just want the reassurance that you will pass. Obviously its different if you are working with vunerable people rather than inanimate objects.

seems to be differing rules. OH wasn't allowed to use his socuting one with the little league or vice versa. And DD has 3, one for guiding (no longer used) one for scouting and one for her teacher training. She also was told she couldn't use the exsisting ones when she applied for the later positions Hence reason I thought you had to have a new one for each position? Tho luckily we've not paid for any the organisation or the Uni has paid in each case.

Maybe if that's the case it depends on the role,Madz I work for a Nursing/Social Care Agency. If a prospective employee has an in date CRB certificate, it will not be excepted. Before anyone starts, a new CRB check needs to be done. With all upto date ID documents. Still needs to be done, even if they already work in these settings eleswhere, ie a hospital, nursing home ect. This will be exactly the same with any Agency in any part of the Country in this field. Maybe some areas outside what I do, is not as stringent, hence the discrepancies. That could be the reason for your husband was able to do the way he did it. Or the only other thing is, Companies are not playing by the rules. And cutting corners, thinking it maybe fine for someone to start work straight away because they still have an in date certificate, and send off for new one.I have the feeling this maybe the case. They may do this, but it does not mean it's correct. If you get my gist. heath63

Shelli I think Companies are cutting corners. That is why majority of posts on here have stipulated that they have had to apply for new CRB checks for different jobs. Those who didn't and work on existing CRBs while a new one is done. Those Companies have cut corners and kept their fingers crossed. heath63

This is the information on the Home Office website: Accepting a
previously-issued CRB check
Ultimately it is
for the employer to determine whether to accept a previously-issued criminal
record check.
However you should
consider the following before making a decision:
The applicant's criminal record or other relevant
information may have changed since its issue.
The decision made by a Chief Police Officer to
disclose information on a CRB certificate was made based on the position for
which the criminal record check was originally applied for. You cannot assume
that no other intelligence would be disclosed for a different position.
The information revealed was based on the identity
of the applicant, which was validated by another registered body, at the time
that the original check was requested. Therefore, you should ensure that the
identity details on the certificate match those of the applicant.
If you are contacted by another organisation about a
previously issued criminal record check, any information disclosed can only be
passed to individuals who need to see it as part of the recruitment decision.
You can only confirm whether or not the information
provided is the same as on your copy of the CRB certificate.
