I was going to say that BT took eight days to restore our landline (and internet) last November. They promised to do it on 5th. Dec., which was almost a week after our first report of the fault, and actually turned up two days later. The engineer assured us we would automatically receive compensation for the inconvenience, especially as it was just before Christmas and we needed to shop online, contact relatives etc. But our bill came and they hadn't even refunded for the days we lost, let alone offered any recompense. We had to phone them again and get them to knock something off the bill. They agreed quite readily, but whether any refund will appear when it comes through the post is another matter!
So changing to another provider might not be the answer. I think they all have their faults.

Hello everyone and thanks for all your replies and thoughts!
I thought I'd take up the advice abut the router so today I bought a new router from maplin for £59.95 and plugged it in and hey presto! It works again!
So I was able to ring up talk talk and cancel the engineers visit ( it wasn't easy I have to tell you!) and I have a funny feeling despite all the re-assurances of the little man in a faraway land, that an engineer may come knocking on my door next thurs and then a battle to have the charge for his visit removed! - something just tells me lol
Anyways at least the Internet is back on! And I have to say its much faster than before at loading things which is very nice!
Thanks once again everyone for all your help!
Register with the TT user forum. There have been questions posted on there about people who have had "engineer issues" but they have been sorted out by the TT employees who contribute to the site. I actually think, reading replies, they are actually UK based customer service staff who are contributing to the forum in an actual official capacity with TTs full knowledge and permission.
------------- It'll work out in the end!!!!
I didn't do it !! Nobody saw me do it !! You can't prove anything !!

Been there done that, connection dropping out on a regular basis, unable to reboot router etc etc. In the end got rid of talk talk and signd up to sky, not a problem since and much quicker internet speeds.
We have been with TalkTalk for years without a problem but in December we lost our connection and spent hours on the phone trying to sort it out. We told them we were going to switch to another provider but they were quick to say they would send a new router free if we stayed with them, which they did. However we are still having problems with it losing connection intermittently and are considering changing to Sky after a very good offer. Now after reading your post, we will do it.
