We have no waste either. You either eat it or no pudding! We try and keep to a budget of between £40 and £50 a week for 4 of us. Also write a shopping list so we dont buy extra. If an item is on deal we get it for the following week. And straight in the freezer. Most meals are made from scratch, we dont buy pies etc. Its much cheaper to make a few at a time. If I had £150 to spend I wouldnt know where to start!
I can't even begin to imagine how someone could spend that much money just on their food!
I admit in the past I have wasted food. I would do a weekly shop with a menu in mind, but half way through the week the meal plan would change resulting in food not getting eaten.
I now do a monthly on line shop to stock up on things like washing up liquid, loo roll, bleach etc....
OH shops almost daily - I text a shopping list and he buys just the items we need for tea. Any left overs are packed for his lunch the following day.
Our shopping bill has been cut and food isn't wasted.
My Mum is always chucking food away and it seems the more money you have the less you worry about what you chuck.
Someone I know does the same.
I never use supermarkets for veg these days, I go to a local veg shop and just buy what I need. I only seem to use a supermarket for frozen stuff and tins. If I buy a great bag of carrots (for eg) from a supermarket, half of them end up going off before I remember to cook and freeze them. Now I just buy what I am going to use that week.
Any leftovers here are used the next day as well, or frozen to eat later. (or the hairy animal eats them!) I quite often buy meat on or near its sell by date (if it looks ok) and freeze it for later.
DOWNSIZE! by this I mean get rid of your large casserole, pie dishes etc. either to friends who can use them or a charity and buy smaller ones. I did this when my two left home, now knowing I have smaller dishes I buy smaller amounts, meat and veg from our local market and sometimes from "hedge veg stalls" which are quite popular over here.

I have three sides, left, right and wrong - which one are you on?

Or eat half/freeze half. Then you have ready meals for when you don't want to cook, or don't have time.
People waste food because they can afford to, those who can't usually don't. On a related note plenty buy convenience food which on a lb for lb basis is ridiculously highly priced compared with fresh food. As we have we have no actual food shortages in this country, which is worse, wanton waste of food or wanton waste of money?
