Saz5178: I think you may have an opportunity to save your company some money or at least time. You can quickly request a check on an individual or company credit file. As stated by surfer01 Experian are a well recognised credit reference agency and will probably offer you a cheaper service.

As far as the original post is concerned you have my sympathy. Like all things contractual read before signing . As you have stated you have not paid this fee in the past. I very much doubt you will pay this kind of fee in the future or at the very least be aware that you maybe liable.

One thing you could request is copies of the original forms you signed stating the £24 fee for onward credit reference?

I dont think ive explained myself!! doh when i say credit checks it means, credit rating, employer reference, landlord reference, electoral role check etc etc etc Sorry completly my fault

ok, so far im in agreement to whats being said, so why do different letting agents charge different amounts? Our current agent wanted £300 for us both, the new agent only wanted £150 for us both for supposedly the same work?

Seems like the bigger agents are simply out to make money.

Market forces and no regulation of charges. It is a case of buyer beware. It's like most things, as a basic example energy suppliers. All have different tariffs, some charging if you change supplier within a defined period. It was getting crazy with many tariffs available which is due to change with government intervention.
