Glad the police are stopping people randomly, although I wouldn't have 2 pints and drive in the first place
I am also in my late twenties, I drive a Honda civic sport and regularly go out of an evening with friends (although dont drink) It wouldn't bother me if the police pulled me over one bit, got nothing to hide,

Better that they are able to stop somebody who they thought may have been drinking, and have a negative Breathalyzer result, than prevent them doing this and missing the person who goes out an kills somebody because of drink driving.

Personally i think he was lucky,ive heard of cases of the police taking a breath test then doing another about 20mins later..dont agree with any forms of drink driving no matter if it was a pint..

The op's son needs to stop drinking & driving & putting other road users at risk. He was very lucky to be under the limit after 2pts & even that amount will have impaired his judgement, next time he may not be so 'lucky'.

I just don't get these commendations for doing right and proper.

Acceptable behaviour should be, erm, well... accepted! Not rewarded!!
Punishment for wrong-doing... nothing for behaving yersen!

Part of the problem is that since we've had an increase in cameras on the road, the budget for police driving on the roads and being visible to the public has been cut.

When I was younger and could possibly have been tempted to do something daft, the reason I didn't is that chances are that somewhere on the way home you would see a police car either driving towards you or in your rear view mirror.

The police used to regularly pop into pubs as well. Not to spoil anyone's fun, but to have a five minute chat with the landlord and ask if everything was ok. The fact that they were visible gave you a nudge to behave if you needed one.

As for being polite to the police, as well as the right thing to do it's also the sensible option. There have always been a few smart alecs who think it's clever to get lippy with the police. Personally I can't see anything sensible or clever about being kept hanging around half the night by a police officer who rightly has got the hump because I can't be bothered to be polite, respectful and cooperative.
