There's no way you'd catch me camping with little ones. When OH's son was 2, we went to Ireland for 2 weeks and even staying in a house he was a complete menace. He was Tantrums-R-Us for most of the time, decided he wasn't potty trained after all and ran out of clean, dry pants and trousers (he couldn't manage a wee in the last dry pair, so he sat in a puddle instead), got us queuing in the pouring rain for over an hour for fish and chips and then threw them on the floor, insisted on having a bottle of orange juice with a straw in a pub and then threw the bottle, scoring a direct hit on the barman's head, somewhow manage to escape from the house and toddle across the road, down a track and on to the beach and ended the holiday standin on his seat screaming for the entire duration of the flight back from Dublin and refusing to sit down for landing. That's just highlights, there are many, many more horror stories. He was an exceptionally large and beefy kid, with a physical strength that matched his will of iron, so short of beating him into submission there was a limit to what you could get him to do. I vowed I would never go on holiday with a child again. I'm still traumatised by it and he'll be 23 next month. And, astonishingly, he's grown up to be prefectly nice.
Oh dear Fran, that sounds dreadful. Yes, my grandson also has a will if iron. When I had my girls 30 odd years ago I seemed to be the boss. Now, grandson rules the roost more or less. He wont go in a buggy wiithout a tantrum and prefers to walk himself. He is a real wee boy, in at everything, a climber and very curious about everything. And he doesnt sit still for a moment. I was glad to get back to work for a rest today!

My middle daughter said that when they've all got kids i'll be pinching them on weekends to go camping
Not that i'm not looking forward to trips without them ....we have plans for when the kids have flown the nest too Borrow my teens for a weekend camp.....we play silly games,(think headbandz, catch the smarties etc), go walking and have competitions to find the biggest leaf/stone/twig etc. They don't care about being cool when camping, we all find our inner child and let them free <img align="absmiddle" src="forum_images/smiley4.gif" width="17" alt="17">
Don't get me wrong mine don't give a monkeys about being cool either, camping or anytime, and we do still play games and do all the silly stuff, but it's just not the same as when they were little, my eldest is now 19 and only comes if she's not at work/going out/buried in college work etc, my very mature 16 year old prefers to have her nose in a book if we're not out exploring, the youngest at 13 is still enthusiastic most of the time but you know how it is, she's 13!
