I think it's lovely when cats come into my garden, I often give them a saucer of milk. You can't tie a cat up like a dog. I don't know some people are so against them.

The cat next door always lies on my newly planted flowers in the troughs in my front garden, which crushes and ruins most of them, it moves from one to the other.
I was told it was the heat stored in the troughs that attracted the cats.
Its not so keen on the high powered water pistol I have aquired

We don't get them in the garden now since a fox moved in nearby.

We have a dog and a cat, this is not deterring 3 new cats in area coming into our garden, one has attacked our cat and she needed vet treatment to a wound.

So we are blocking off holes and gaps to try and minimise the access, but we back onto fields so we are fighting a losing battle.

next purchase a super dooper water pistol blaster, to get the little blighters.

Quite simply I don't appreciate ruining my flower and veg plots and tubs with their excrement! It's expensive and vile.

My dog's getting elderly but he has an excellent nose for the local cat population's favourite runs and is good at ambushing them - the water cannon (aka hosepipe) then comes into play. I did have sonic devices but they were expensive to run and aren't that tough when you get larger livestock in the garden though they were fine when I had a "normal" garden.

I don't hate cats - looked after two strays in the past - just I don't want them on my patch.

Either they've improved or the cats round our way are impervious to them. I know 3 people who've tried them, and they've not made the slightest difference.

Like the water pistol idea. One of those big pump action jobs from toys are us. we have lots of cats locally and they all seem to be pregnant too. Our neighbour has three and they dump all over our front garden. I've ignored it for years but not any more.

It may sound daft but this is the only deterrent that really works and we have used it on many occasions. I think you can buy artificial lion spray but not sure.

Cheap and nasty curry powder from the Co-op worked for me. Sprinkled where they usually toilet, usually the smell alone is enough to put them off using the garden, but if they persist, once they have licked that off their paws they won't be back for a while.

I have no objection to cats, I used to own one. But finding cat poo in your borders is disgusting. My dog is shut in at night, so that's when all the neighbourhood cats feel free to use my garden.

I have a load of netting over my garden as a last resort. tried pepper dust, tried the lion dung pellets, tried hosepipe. A friend of my wife told her that mothballs work. I would prefer to try an air rifle. They cant be tamed, they crap everywhere and their faeces can contain disease.................isnt that the definition of vermin?

Thing is Mike, those that like 'em, like 'em, and expect everyone else to, too.

I can understand someone wanting to keep a pet (I don't like to say "owning" - how can you *own* another living being?) - what I can't understand is keepers expecting everyone else to happily accept the results.

Owner of two cats and two dogs. I don't expect others to like them, our two cats are part ferrel rescued when living in Cyprus everyone complained there about cats getting in the bins we secured our lid. So due to the complaints there was a removal/cull of cats. A short while later same people where complaing about all the mice and rats.
I have a neighbour a couple of doors down whose dog is knowingly out they say she will bark when she wants in but she always poops on our front garden. Being polite didn't work.
