My son enjoys the driving. And parking wherever he wants!!!

I think his customers are close together and he sticks to the same patch, comes home around 1 pm, has a sleep and off again around 3.30 to do pick ups.

He goes to a depot to pick his stuff up. I (yes!!!) get up at 3.50am to send him off with sandwiches and tea and go back to bed for OH's 5.30 am alarm.

Just as well I am not working now as I would be falling asleep over my desk in the afternoon.

No, really?!

My daughter's boyfriend worked for Yodel for several months but had to give it up because no matter how hard he worked at it he just could not balance his books in terms of time spent and money coming in.

He was using his own private car and was doing 10 hour days with as many parcels as he could cram in but the time he took out his expenses (petrol, running costs etc) it really was only a few pence he was making on each parcel. To make it pay, he really would of had to do more hours and more parcels.

It is a hard job to make any real money out of it and the only real winners out of it are Yodel themselves.

This is an inevitable result of online suppliers trying to undercut bricks & mortar shops, buyers forget that doorstep delivery has a cost & they do not wish to pay the true price. Tesco admit that their £5 delivery charge is subsidised & each delivery actually costs £10.

Years ago deliveries were done by employed drivers paid a wage. They drove liveried vans & were provided with uniform & safety boots etc. Wages wern't that good but at least it was just a job that you went home from & forgot about. The recently defunct City Link was originally a 'proper' delivery company with employed drivers, ending up forcing its drivers into self employment but still couldn't make it pay.

So we are reduced to Yodel's model. People offered a 'business opportunity' that they neither cost out or even understand delivering parcels for pennies in secondhand vehicles not even suitable for the job. When they find it does not pay & give up there is always somebody else unemployed to believe the false promises.

If your ordered goods do not turn up you know why.

Been waiting for a delivery since 17th Dec. You've guessed it... Yodel!
Apparently they couldn't find us (Work address). In that time, either side of the Xmas break, we have had approx. 15 parcels delivered to us, by other couriers. Not for the first time, Yodel are the only one's who can't find us!

Having now read the above, I'm now guessing the Yodel driver that eventually found us in the past has knocked it on the head, and the new driver is unable to read the detailed instructions... or even ring my mobile, to ask for directions!

If your Yodelling to the DE24 area... I want a word!

I recall British Rail Parcels decades ago. Not a bad little job, parcels came by rail & small fleets of Commer walkthrough vans were based at mainline stations to deliver locally to homes & businesses. Not a bad little job, pay nothing special but unionised so good working conditions, holiday & sick pay, suited & booted & so on. How we have progressed eh?

The irony of the modern system is that the drivers all have satnav/smartphone technology but everything else is rubbish.

To mucker. Unfortunately, Yodel will probably not be paying any mobile bill per se, so it will be down to the individual courier.....

Conversely though, had a Yodel order delivered within 48 hours last week. That's pretty impressive for their business model.

That would be the British Rail Red Star parcel service which became City Link, now in liquidation.

Didn't think of that!
And reading the above about them being self employed etc, you're almost certainly right!

Can't blame them, (The driver's) I suppose... but that doesn't make it right from the customer's point of view!

Maybe, for suppliers who know they are going to use Yodel, they should email the driver's mobile number along with the order confirmation, so we can call them!

been a self employed freelance multi drop driver for 15+ years I love it I work only Monday to Friday (long days 10 to 15 hrs) I pick and choose what I do usually go with UPS best payers but have worked for Yodel and they are as good as most, as for all the "oh worst and didn't knock and the old chestnut I was in he didn't come Do as I do cover your bum take a pic of the front door of the property, date and time tagged. Or the place you leave the parcel shed ect. then when you get HR saying you didn't go pull out phone show pic and there endeth the lie. PS being self employed and filling in tax returns on line is a doddle I do it monthly so I don't have the full year to input makes it so easy, Keep every receipt from fuel to work clothes to haircuts.

We have definitely had notes left when we have been in and also no card left when left with neighbours before, and parcels left at wrong address (similar road with slightly different name is only about 100m away from us) so it definitely works both ways

As for being self employed, well depending on rates offered to self employed, the tax side of things definitely is in the self employed drivers favour with NIC being lower and plenty of deductions available against income

Following on from my post above, apparently they tried to deliver again yesterday... it's now on it's way back to the supplier for the second time! We've spoken to them (the supplier) and they've said they'll send with a different courier for attempt No3!!

And on top of that, Having bought one of those cheap footprints that were linked here in the forums, I recieved a text and email from Yodel this morning, saying it's on it's way. Woohoo!

... 2 hours later, another text and email saying they tried to deliver, and are sorry they missed me! They will of course try again tomorrow!

They didn't miss me, as I was in all day... along with numerous colleagues, so even if I'd nipped to the loo or the kettle, the office was always attended!

They couldn't find us in December. They couldn't find us yesterday, and now they couldn't find us today! I'm not holding my breath on them finding us tomorrow, and fully expect my footprint to get returned to sender, along with my other, aforementioned parcel/.

This week, so far, we have had 11 separate deliveries, by 4 different couriers... none of which were Yodel, of course.

We were away over New Year for a week. On returning home we found a card through the door explaining that our parcel had been left behind a flower pot by the door.

All well and good as the parcel was indeed behind the pot. Only problem was that the parcel was NOT for us!
