"pipiing hot" according to Google is undefined. Even the NHS choices website uses the term in cooking instructions but it is in my opinion an inadequate cooking instruction.

Where it should be piping hot also needs definition. Surface or middle?

Got my info from a Food Safety Advisory Centre book. My son's cookery teacher told him the same thing the year before last, so it must still be current.

You should check the centre of the food (thickest part) but avoid contact with bones as they conduct heat, so could give a false reading.

Ha no I'm fine, could be the wrong shelf but I did still cook it in the oven for the 25 mins instructed at the right temp and ours is a fan oven and I didn't adjust the heat to allow for that either. I wouldn't bother to complain as I didn't cook it according to exact instructions so I can't go blaming anyone other than myself! I have my suspicions though and as it was a very nice fuller longer dish even sans chicken I may buy again and test it properly to satisfy my mind.
