Any body able to explain why it costs so much in uk.?
There is a shortage of qualified dentists and not enough youngsters doing dentistry at uni. This is why most NHS dentisits inthe UK now are from abroad. Mine is from Spain. That said, she's totally lovely and highly skilled.

Not necessarily people are stupid! As you may have gathered I have a contact within the industry. My neighbour came to tell me she was going to get implants and told me who she was going to, I explained that I could ask for details of the excellent practise I had been told about who were not only nearer to us, cost a third of the price she was paying and his results were as good if not better. She decided to stay with the original because of the reputation in certain areas.
If we all do that the lower cost people will charge more.
Re not training enough dentists, I could be wrong. This is my theory, competition for places is massive with many foreign students having better grades they are gaining the places. Leaving British students not able to study. Two of my friends have children studying dentistry in Spain, there aren't many parents who can pay the fees for their child to do that. Yes it all sounds xenophobic, but universities want the best students and the UK isn't achieving the best results.
Plus I understand Dentistry is a high stress profession there seem to be many having breakdowns, retiring early, working part time. This all adds to the lack of dentists.

When I had a gap I just had a bridge done. Surely these could be cheaper than implants.
One of the bridges is over thirty years old, no problems at all and looks fine.I've had two more done since.
Interestingly I was thinking about this thread a few days ago as another friend said she was having implants. I had bookmarked it when it first appeared.
Was surprised to find the thread open here again today. Not having implants but know so many who are that I kept it for reference just in case.
