Hi
I remember years ago i went with a friend of mine up to his family in Ayrshire for New Year and had a great time.We stayed at his family home for the bells then went first footing with a bagpipe player leading us going from house to house. I remember in one house one family had a tin bath full with whiskey and you just helped yourself. All i do know it was the best New Year i have ever had seeing it lasted four days from what i was told lol
Happy New Year to all for tonight
cheers
I normally work nightshift on Hogmanay but I'm off this year so we have decided to have a big party at our house. We have some family, friends and their children coming. Around 35 in total so it should be a good night. I know celebrating at New Year is not for a lot of people though. I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year when it comes however you decide to spend it. I'm not looking forward to the nippy head tomorrow though

364 days of the year you would hardly say hi to half of the neighborhood i lived in,
but new years eve all doors open plenty of beer and we literately went house to house from midnight till 6 or 7 am. i was only young when my family did this to boot as well mum and 2 others on estate birthdays where the 1st of january. but that was in the late 80's.
how times of changed.

Not so many years ago ( or should it be once upon a time ) we had a party every Hogmanay, three neighbours and ourselves took turns each to host the party. Funnily enough we were all West coasters who had moved to the East coast but all were welcome and most couples in the street did come along.
This went on for about 10 years but then fizzled out about 5 years ago.
Most folks now seem to bring in the bells and go to bed as we now do.
We now take the grandchildren overnight and let our own children go and celebrate at a club or event.
It suits us fine and I am able to have a smug look when I see the state of the revellers when we drop the grandchildren off the next day .
Do I miss the traditional first footing..YES!!!!!!!

It is a fool who has to say something.
Last New Years Party we went to was the Millennium at a cousins house. Now their younger ones have kids and dont live local, friends don't bother these days, neighbours might go out at midnight if its not raining but I've stood out there on my own watching fire works last couple of years. Assuming I can stay awake long enough I will have a look out front. New Years is not like it used to be.
Pub round the corner is having a black tie do, ticket purchased at a fiver before hand. It will be packed in there and its not a huge place. Roasting hot, expensive drink and food (assuming its being done tonight).
Wee update on my earlier post(page one)...Round at my brothers (next street)and had a great time till around 4 am when as he always does he walks me home(Thinks I' m drunker than he is LOL!!)
As we approached my flat one or two neighbours were outside a house (having a smoke)...So I stopped to wish them a HNY....Big Mistake!!!
I was kidnapped by two lady neighbours one of whom insisted I was going to her house for a wee hauf!! Once there I discovered most of the neighbours from my stair were there plus a few others I knew....One hauf led to another and I ended up leaving at 7:am NYD!!!!
Point of story....Took me right back to the old days...When you just joined random parties and got on with it...Doesn't seem to happen too often these days...
Belated New Year wishes to everyone on UKCS...Hope its a good one for you all....
Jelboy.
