Had 2 of our best holidays in Turkey. Beautiful country, beautiful friendly people. First tie was in Marmaris which was a little likeBlackpool with sunshine but we had fun. Second time was a lovely resort called Turgetries which I can't recommend highly enough. Loved sitting watching the sun go down listening to the evening call to prayer at the mosque. Happy times. I'd go back tomorrow.

Get a Lonely Planet guide book from library and when you have decided where to go you can find out about surrounding areas and places to visit. It will tell you where to catch the bus and how much the entrance fees are etc.

Well worth a bit of a read up. Each resort has many supporting acts!!

We went to Icmeler September last year - all inclusive.

We had a fantastic time we only had 6 nights there and wish we had done a bit longer.

Icmeler is a short bus ride away from Marmaris - we did a day out there cost 3 Turkish lira ( the exchange rate at the time made it about 90p) each way - We did not particularly enjoy Marmaris - too busy - like Blackpool.

Icmeler is popular and had lots of hotels and eateries - a small bay - boat taxi's which can take you to Marmaris.

Lots of things to do - excursions are great - we did a lazy day, you board a boat and get taken around different bays where you can jump off the back of the boat and go for a swim - they feed you and it worked out £12 all inclusive of drinks for a whole day out.

I would love to go back would spend more time chilling by the pool as I did not feel that I took advantage of the all inclusive that we paid for.

If you are going to spend lots of time drinking out - don't go all inclusive - you end up paying for something that you are not using - sometimes and only sometimes it does work out better to do it but not in all cases

Best of luck

Turunc is a boat ride across the water. We got stuck there for a week once as tourists were advised that it was not safe to leave the town or walk around anywhere.

Nothing sinister just that it was too hot and the govt sent out a warning about people collapsing. It was particularly bad there as the hills create a sun trap.

We had a wonderful week I hasten to add as all we could do was sit and drink lots or keep dipping in the sea.

Lovely place and very friendly.

We went several years ago. I week on a gulet from Marmaris-fabulous 10 people plus 3 crew. We got on well and had lots of fun. Accomodation was basic but food was fresh and cooked by the crew. We followed it with a week in a hotel in Marmaris. Hotel was a bit basic and food bland. If we went again would book a better hotel.

The people were friendly and prices reasonable. Be prepared to haggle if you want to buy leather goods etc! It can take a while with cups of tea cold drinks involved!

Guys will try to entice you into their restaurants as you walk along, but they are friendly. Eating out was good and cheap.

Some of the bars on the seafront had their own sunbeds, if you bought drinks you could use them, waiter service too and not excessively pricey!

There were lots of counterfeit designer shirts, fake Rolex etc for sale.

I bought a very nice laether jacket which I still have and some fake Lacoste polo shirts which lasted years!

There are many resorts that are not on the tourist trail. Worth taking a dolmus (minibus) to spend a day in one. Maybe it is different now but we used to travel around independently and sometimes did not see another non Turkish person even just round the corner from a huge touristic area.

Bozburun peninsular is beautiful and you used to be able to get right to the end of the peninsular by cadging a lift at 7am in the postman's van; EU have probably put a stop to that though.
