Have you read the book of Esther in the Old Testament (a very short book) ? It will show you there is nothing wrong in feeling fear. Good luck with your endoscopy x

I love the book of Esther. The problem is, my mum would say it was "wrong" of me to worry (as a christian). I don't want to get into trouble for bringing faith into a thread, but I've grown up believing it to be sinful to worry. So I think I'm in a vicious circle of worry, feeling unwell, beating myself up etc!

Thanks for your kind thoughts and help. Going to have another read at Esther.xx

Weegmack, as you know I had an hiatus hernia. Something weird happened when I had my endoscope. They pushed it back down.
It was like heaven!! Same thing happened to a friend of mine as well.
Unfortunately, they do pop back up again though.
I thought that feeling may at least give you something to look forward to. Good luck

Thanks Janey - I actually hadn't realised how ill hiatus hernias can make a person feel. I believe they are called the "great mimic", because they mimic more serious things. I often just feel so exhausted with it - there's not much relief. The consultant thinks the hernia may be quite big and causing problems like a stricture in my oesophagus (spelling??), therefore making everything more narrow and digestion difficult.

Then he said that stress and worry make it worse! Ha! I am possibly the most anxious person the world has ever seen.....

Yes, stress and worry will make it worse. You consultant sounds very sympathetic.
I met a lady who was a friend of friend, the poor woman had an hiatus hernia and her GP basically said " it not life threatening, get on with it".
She actually had worse symptoms than I did.
People have no idea of the misery they cause. But they are fixable.
If you do have the op, don't underestimate it, it is a major operation. And it will knock you for six. I was as week as kitten for about 3 weeks.
But I cannot say how grateful I was to get my hernia fixed and my life back.
The throat thing is horrid. If acid is burning your oesophagus it can lead to much more serious problems in the future.
Your body is out of "sync" and this effects so many other things.

Weegmack, I'm in Ayrshire too so I can guess where you're going for the procedure and that won't help. I'd come and keep you company, hold your hand, if I could. I had a hysteroscopy (other end...) to see if I had uterine cancer (didn't), and I was almost what the medics call a "failure" (i.e. I almost had to tell them to stop and do it under general anaesthetic). But a hand to hold through the procedure makes a world of difference - take someone with you who doesn't mind having their bones crushed or skin broken by your finger nails. And remember it's for the best - the sooner you know what the cause of all this is, the sooner you can take control, deal with it and get on with enjoying life. As you do, from reading your other posts. In the grand scheme of things, what's a few minutes? Imagine yourself on your favourite site, with your favourite fella (or favourite dog...) - a bit of self-hypnosis, in effect.

Fiona W - the very same thing happened when I had a camera up my butt! It was so painful, they had to stop. They didn't find anything thankfully though.

I've been in many departments in this particular hospital, but my worst experiences have been in the endoscopy dept. The nurses are lovely, but some really bossy consultants are there. I know they just want to get the camera down and do their work, but I just cannot tolerate it! It must be annoying for them, but they have zero bedside manner. My hubby will come with me - he always does, but they don't let him come into the surgery room. I know it's a very short procedure - I'm just terrified they find something scary. But I have to be positive- hiatus hernia is well known as a "great mimic", in that it creates similar symptoms to some very serious illnesses.
