The problem when you ask for opinions regarding a good towcar people are usually biased and will more often than not suggest the car they use to tow a caravan but may not always be the right choice for you. I have a Volvo V50 with a 2.4 diesel engine that's installed in their big Volvo 4x4's but because my car is lighter I obtain a lot more miles per gallon especially when solo but have enormous power and torque delivery for towing a 2 berth caravan. However, although I would consider it a great towcar, my caravan only weighs 1300 kgs. but wouldn't be suitable for your needs but what I will say is that Volvo is a good choice and I'm not being biased as I bought one because of the good feedback from others that tow with them. Depending what you are looking for in the Volvo range, there are older models such as the huge XC90 model (4x4), the XC70 estate (4x4), the V70 estate (Mondeo size) with the same engine and torque delivery with a huge rear loading area and then there are the later models which of course are more expensive which depends on your budget which you could visit a dealer and read through a few brochures.

I thought kondeos suppose to be good tow cars ?
Mondeos are superb towcars in both the mk3 and Mk4 versions, it is difficult to go wrong with a caravan up to about 1500kg with them. They will do the job without fuss or bother, be absolutely stabel, be economical on fuel and cheap to look after as well as being comfortable.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
We have a motorhome at present but when we go back to caravanning we will definitely look for an old, well looked after Vauxhall Frontera
2.2 DTi. Brilliant tow car.
Unless the engines problems starting. Lol
Yes I do like front eras and they great cars with loads of space and tradition on the wheels, but in my opnion the could be better build for the owners regarding engine problems.
