Avoid! Tacky and boring, and that includes the beach, no matter how clean, there are much better places. How about Swanage or Weymouth, Lyme Regis/Charmouth? Personally I would go further, South Devon, or the Gower in Wales.

I would take issue with the comment about Woolacombe beach. We visited in July, drove along Marine Drive, virtually halfway along the sands and virtually had the beach to ourselves . Hardly tacky or boring.

I don't think Weston's that bad! I mean, it's an estuarine seaside town but the pier is very nice now and it's alright. There's loads to do in Somerset, would definitely recommend Cheddar and Glastonbury town, and I suppose I should recommend Bath since I live there...

Speaking of Lyme Regis/Charmouth, I just stayed at a campsite called Cummins Farm between the two. Pretty basic, just a field with some electric hook ups and a nice toilet block but very cheap!

I thought we were discussing Weston, not Woolacombe. Been there (Woolacombe), it's ok.

Isn't it up to a person's personal taste as to whether somewhere is tacky, boring etc?

We would not bother with Weston as we only live 20 miles away. It holds no interest for us because we have a dog and cannot go on the pier etc. Have gone beyond the beach day with no young kids anymore.

A relative owned a B&B just off the sea front for a few years until they retired and sold up (to move a couple of streets away). They had lots of families staying, some came back year after year. It would not suit someone who is used to going out for a walk on the moors, fells, like lakeside sports etc. But it will have plenty of things for the right minded person.

I only expressed my opinion! if people like Weston, then so be it, none of my concern. It's just not our thing.

Three words. Don't go

As you used the apostrophe I would count that as 2 words. Had you said "do not go" I agree it would have been three.

Goodness! If we all liked the same things at the same places, imagine how crowded they would be! and what would happen to the places that this would affect?

Its good that we all have preferences and different likes and dislikes.
