Good quality brown paper with a gift tag made from a previous year's Christmas card or a personal message written in a gold or silver pen and a few bits of glitter stuck on. Except for the dog! His pressies are wrapped up in several layers of wrapping paper which he adores shredding and we find bits of months later - he doesn't like brown paper!

Got to be chrimbo cards from last year, cut up into shapes then threaded through with recycled gift ribbon by my daughter. She loves all that craft stuff. and I hate waste...

Ive never been one to follow trends myself, i let the other sheep do that.
Good Christmas do was it.... ?!
Actually I don't socialise with anyone from where I work. Couldn't have gone to the xmas do as I was working after swapping my shift so soneone else could go.
Far too many get sucked into trends normally started by retailers or marketeers to get you to spend your money. The diamond manufacturers played a blinder with how much you should spend on an engagement ring a few years back. They TOLD you how much you should spend !
Isn't giving a present about the thought involved or is it now about how it is wrapped ?
If people feel the need to comply with the "current trend" in wrapping then surely they are sheep ?
Surely we all go for the Rowan Atkinson method demonstrated in 'Love Actually' ?
In reality, it is January sales wrapping paper, usually reduced by about 75%, and a roll of stick on labels at 80 for 99p, saves on the string and sellotape needed for recycled card tags.

You are quite right, I shall refrain from posting such flippant comments about the serious business of Christmas wrapping paper in future

You have given me an idea..instead of all the fancy wrapping paper and shiny bag etc..I got my wife a pair of sexy knickers for her xmas, so I think I will just twang them across the table to her when all the family are there for xmas dinner..sorted

Gift bags for birthday pressies for us passed back and forth across various family birthdays. Who cares if the name has been crossed out on the label a few times!
I wrap Christmas gifts on the eve in what ever anyone else in the house has left over or plastic bags if nothing left.
At no point have I said don't wrap anything but if you reread the OP it was about how simple wrapping seemed a bit unacceptable.
Now apply what I said to that op and you see what I'm getting at. I agree with the OP and pointed out how it has come about via the retailers and marketing experts. Up selling all those extras you now "need" is big business.
lockie..I am the OP and my first post was pretty much about what you said QUOTE: "I agree with the OP and pointed out how it has come about via the retailers and marketing experts. Up selling all those extras you now "need" is big business."
My last post was meant to be light hearted to play down your other post that could come across as.. ba! humbug.
No offence was intended..Merry Xmas
