I stopped back in the early 80's and haven't touched one since.

I recollect seeing a sign, many years ago, with wording similar to this:-

Smoke is a by-product of your habit. The smell from your enjoyment of smoking permeates my lungs, hair and clothing.
My pleasure is obtained from drinking. The by-product of my pleasure is urine.
How would you like me to stand on a chair and p*** all over your head?

Some days you are the dog,
some days you are the tree.

Goodbye tension, hello Pension!

Champix tablets cost ££25.40 per week or £305 for 12 weeks. This is about £3.60 per day

20 cigarettes a day is about £8.00 a day so they are saving money

Surely smokers should pay for this service and not burden the NHS with it

I'm sure the amount of tax we have paid on ciggies in the past and the amount we are saving the NHS by giving up justifies a mear £305 per person - don't punish people for trying to give up - yes we are saving money because we are not smoking, we still have to pay for the prescription so its not as if it is totally free - and they will only give you two weeks supply per prescription - don't complain about smokers then complain if they try to quit!!!

Now started week 3 so far OK but it has been hard at times.I did ask about the cost (get mine as a prescription) the pharmacist explained that if I manage to stop the cost to the NHS is cheaper in the long term than treatment for smoking related problems .I would have been quite happy to pay for mine.

well done to all those who have given up, ....in 2 days time it'll be 2 years for me. The first month is tough, but every day it gets a little easier....then before you know it months have gone by!!

Stick with it, because it's so worth it!   :-)

PS: patches for me....for 6 months, cut up into slightly smaller pieces every week until I forgot to put them on

Thank God that I never started! Then again my mum's dad died of lung cancer when she was only 14.

Well done and keep going

Twelve years in now, and so much better for it. More energy, more taste and smell, and reduced irritability.

Darthillcat, keep at it, nearly past the first hurdle - once you get past three weeks it's a lot, lot easier. Even if you keep on the nicotine substitutes for the rest of your natural, you'll still be healthier (and wealthier) than you were. Look forward to a summer of camping where you're smelling so much more.

I used lozenges, but they gave me wind; so switched to chewing gum, gradually reducing the nic content. I then ended up with a chewing gum habit, to get me through the work stress. For a while, I too, used to enjoy standing downwind of a smoker; now less so. Tobacco smoke can be a fragrant scent, but not one I have a relationship with.

I also know, from experience, that just one fag would be a slippery road. I'll be damned if I go down that road again, with a life being driven by craving!
