Our LAN ( WIFI )is 300mb/s which is 300 times faster than 1mb/s and over 4 times faster than your WAN speed. It is our WAN connection that is slow because we are far from the exchange. I was just illustrating that there shouldn't be a bottleneck on your WIFI ( LAN ).

My original post contained a mis-print it should have read 11mbs for the wireless lan.

Fair point - I take it you have checked your broadband speed using a wired connection to the router and found that to be slow too? Wireless routers tend to settle on the same radio channel if left to their own devices which can mean several in the same road on the same radio channel which will cause interference causing packet re-tries and thus slower speeds.

Forcing it to a particular channel in the config can improve things.

Its just the distance of our house from the exchange. They have installed some fibre cabinets in the town and will do ours eventually. The cabinet is only 20m from my front door so we shouldn't have any issues then.

I have just got rid of BT, not all that it was ment to be, and after the introductory period it became very expensive, l was paying over £40pm for a very poor service, including basic line rental, but no extra tv pack. I had to stay locked in until the contract expired, or pay a penalty fee if l wanted to leave early equivelent to the cost of the packages remaining contract months.

Leaving them wasnt pleasent either, several pushy hard sales phone calls from them trying to get me into a further contract, and serveral delays and excuses for not sending me my pac code necesary for my transfere over to a new provider. In the end l had to threaten them that l would be contacting the ombudsman, before my code arrived, around 3 weeks late.

Im with Plusnet now, and im very happy with the customer care and service that they provide, and even better is that im only paying around half the amount that BT were charging me, and that rate is fixed for the entire length of my 12mth contract, and l also recieved a cheque for a £75 cashback offer for joining them, im well pleased.
