I'm no thief, (and even if I was, I wouldn't tell you lot!!) but if I was, someone else's personal toiletries would lie somewhere between their used underwear and their wet towel! Quite literally, probably!
I cringe even if I have to move other people's toiletries out of the way, even if it's just a bottle of shower gel!

This is my way of thinking, when stepping barefoot out of my wellies, outside the loo block door (when particularly muddy, I change into crocs for inside the loo block). Even though they are relatively new, and considerably better/more expensive than most (

, someone would have to be pretty desperate to nick 'em!

I avoid such issues with decanting into small bottles, and perform an area clearance prior to leaving the shower cubicle.

I did leave a newly opened wet bum wipe in a toilet cubicle once, and it was gone in no time.

I do not have any control on other's behaviours, therefore, I shall be more careful not to leave anything behind in the first place.

Whilst in the showers one day I was listening to three girls in the next showers, their conversation centred around a bottle of expensive shampoo one had found.
All were enjoying using it and were enjoying the luxury of it etc etc.
Bottle was passed along the line a couple of times.

Then comes a timid knock on one of their doors and a voice asks did I leave my shampoo in there? Silence from the girls, then a resounding no. All very quiet from then on.

Then comes a much more vigorous voice... did my daughter leave some shampoo in there? Response was a very timid yes it's here and it was passed under the door. The woman went mad at the fact it was almost empty. Did you use it she raged and got a timid 'no'

Three girls remained silent after this.

I exited my cubicle at this point to see the irate mother and a very tearful daughter waiting outside the cubicles. I just mouthed 'they were using it' and the mother thanked me and said I'll wait and have a word with their parents I think!!!!

I probably shouldn't have got involved but the blatant lying of the three girls and the joy at using someone else's expensive shampoo was very riling.

But of course the original teenage owner should maybe think twice about using expensive shampoo away from home.

I personally think its horrible to take someone's left shampoos, stealing even small items is disgraceful. Nearly as bad though is those who don't say thank you for having their items returned.

My teenage son was having a shower and noticed a very expensive watch hanging on the clothes peg. 10 minutes later someone comes in asking if there is a left watch of that description in the shower, my teenage son replied "yes" and passed the watch to the man he received not a single thank you or acknowledgement.

How are we supposed to teach our young people right from wrong if we don't praise them for doing the right thing.

I'm completely shocked over someone having a whole wash bag taken and as for a bowl of dirty pots that's just incredible!

I've lost count of the times I've seen bottles of stuff left in the showers. I for one won't even touch them. Let alone use them or steal them. Firstly I don't steal and secondly I have a bit of an issue about touching other peoples things. I left my scrunchie sponge thing in the shower once and someone even took that!!! Yuk!!
Likewise I never use any washing up cloths kindly provided by any campsite 😕 I couldn't use them on my dishes after others have used them and don't get me started on the state some people leave sinks etc. Sorry gone off topic.

I have done exactly the same thing, gone back later in the day when I realised my mistake, only to find them gone. Both times I was on a very large commercial site. I have noted when on C&CC sites, people tend to leave forgotten items by the sinks for their rightful owners.

If someone is desperate enough to take a bottle of shampoo and/or shower gel that I had partly used, I feel sorry for them really. I wouldn't relish using someone else's used toiletries - most unpleasant.

They must be the same people who steal toilet rolls and leave the showers/sinks filthy dirty.

If you talk to wardens it seems that if it's not screwed down it will go walkabouts.

I not sure what expensive shampoo is but I'm tempted to buy some, use it and then put some peroxide in the bottle and leave it in the shower.

It would be fun to see who suddenly turns blonde.

Hey,
Its happened to us a few times too....and we've only been camping 4 times! Twice i've left shampoo in the shower, gone back 5 minutes later to retrieve it, and its mysteriously disappeared.

Also lost a brand new bottle of washing up liquid. Got back to tent, noticed it missing, went back and it was gone all within the space of a few minutes.

Bit sad really.

The number of bottles of washing up liquid we've had disappear is amazing, mainly due to the OH who for some strange reason will never wash up at home, but when we're camping he's a very industrious dish washer. I have worked a way round it though, squirt the washing up liquid into the bowl before he sets off.

He's also good at leaving the toothpaste behind!!

I'm afraid I only buy the cheaper stuff for camping now, then if it gets "lost" or broken I don't get too upset.

We have been lucky in that respect and never lost anything in the showers and just leave what doesn't belong to me.

My son holds the record for losing stuff, it ranges from £3 given to him for milk and bread and decided to have a kickaround with some boys and lost the money and no bread and milk.

The other a rucksack I asked him to look after, he put down in a car park in Looe and walked off for a moment returned to see it gone. Contents £550.00, however I am the adult my responsibilty so maybe I should get that award.

Surprising and disappointing to hear about these kinds of petty thefts. I guess we've just been very lucky and never had anything nicked in years of camping. Perhaps it's just kind of sites we tend to visit: small, quiet, borderline wild camping.

I worked in a petrol station the the ladies was out of order so we let them use ours,woman asked to use them when she left so did a half used lipstick of mine. She must have been hard up cos no way could I ever do that.

Once, when flying abroad, taxi to the local railway station, the bag which OH was supposed to be looking after was still at home... had to go back for it, luckily we were still in plenty of time. He also left one of our rucksacks by the car on the roadside in Turkey. Got to the beach, where is the rucksack? luckily still there.

I have a trial size bottle of washing up liquid, refilled many, many times over the years since we bought our campervan. I would be devastated to lose it, and do the 'squirt in the bowl' thing before going to the sinks, so I can leave it safely in the cutlery drawer where it lives.

The flip side is taking stuff you don't need & will never use - I'm talking about the wee bottles of stuff in B&Bs & hotels and (I'm told) on cruise ships. My elderly FIL clears the shelf, and when will a totally bald man ever use shampoo & body lotion? never. And he'll never use the wee soaps he snaffles as his water at home is too hard. But he feels he's paid for them all, so he brings them all home where they sit and gather dust.

I do worry about leaving my MH keys in the shower, though...

If have my washing up liquid in a travel pump. Left it on our fave site on the last morning, went back 2 weekends later and it was still next to the sink in the barn! How's that for honesty lol
Couldn't use someone else's shampoo/shower gel........it'd be like sharing a toothbrush
