I haven't got photo licence or green paper licence, mine is pink about 28 years old. Is this still valid & legal?

Yes pink one side, green the other,if its a full licence,I think...and Im sure someone will correct me if Im wrong...a green paper licence was provisional,so as long as the address and name has not changed in that time you are fine, hang on to it as long as you can as at least you don't have to renew at the...current ..rate of £10 every 10 years, sure that will creep up though.

It's a freeby when you reach 70yrs and have to get your new one - every 3 years.
I've still got my little red book from the 60's tucked away in a drawer.
(If you don't have a license the courts can't take it away)
------------- Some days you are the dog,
some days you are the tree.
I'm just about to move house - previously to change address, you fill in the section on the paper bit and send it off... how are you supposed to change your address now?
In all the years of hiring cars in Spain we have never been asked for the paper counterpart.
With the amount of British customers hiring abroad the hire companies will have it sorted, with information when you book.

Hi, Thanks for info. The licence is pink front & back, no green at all. Marilyn
If you ever moved and forgot to tell the licencing authorities, you may not get a reminder and your licence could be out of date. Happened to my silly friend.
Well my brother tried to get code online yesterday and it didn't work,he tried to phone but couldn't get through,I have just tried today online and and it didn't work,no match found, was told to phone, not going to waste my time and money as I am not going yet,but its not looking very hopeful if I do need it in an emergency

Update, put hubbys details in and it worked,so I did phone the no,apparently a lot of peoples details have not been passed across yet between depts, may take a couple more weeks,so no code available for me!
Good job I don't actually need it,to be fair I expect there will be a lot of leeway in this, although I am one of those people who if it could happen to it will :(

Just checked mine, and all working fine... and they have the correct categories listed!
Checked my own details, then also got the code for "others".
Started again, using the code (as would your employer/car hire company etc) and all worked fine by that route too.
All seems simple enough.
I'm keeping hold of my paper counterpart (Even though it is no longer a legal document), just in case it makes my life easier, when dealing with folk who haven't got a clue what's going on!
You can print the whole page (also includes the last 8 digits of driver No. that's required.)
The code (to pass to others, effectively giving them permission to check your details) only last for 72 hours.
The code can only be used once.
I think I saw that you can get up to 5 codes in a 24 hour period? (Sorry, can't find it again now!)
