I posted about this a couple of months ago after being caught in the same way. Even cancelled my card thinking my account had been got at. Was the lady on the counter at my local bank that wised me up telling me that they had had loads of customers complaining about the unauthorised debit.
Refund was quick but pretty poor business practice imho.

Had the same happen to us , they could see we had not used the service so refunded in full
