i get the "daily delivery" on talktalk/tiscali always dumped them without opening via the spam option but this seems to have little effect as the same title keeps coming up time and again and it is the "cisco " tag on the great majority, pretty frustrating

I would never click on any link in an email that I was not 100% sure was a genuine and trusted email ... and that definitely includes the 'unsubscribe' link! The best that can happen is that you confirm the validity of your email address to the sender.
That is different to something you have previously subscribed to, of course.
I find the spam filters on the 2 systems that I use to be pretty good in all honesty and marking as spam or deleting unopened does improve the filters in my experience (although can sometimes take a while!).
Right click on your troublesome e-mail....a drop down box appears with on option of 'Junk Mail' click that and select 'block sender'.
Click on that option and they should stop coming....(from that source)
I use the further option in 'junk mail'
Go to 'Junk mail options' click that.
In the next box look at top and select 'International'
In that box select 'Blocked top-level domain lists'
This will then allow you to block e-mails from any country in the world....I select 'all' then scroll down to de-select the UK and any country I may have friends in. The rest are all blocked.
Result I get NO SPAM AT ALL....
It takes less than 2 minutes to do the above...Try it it may solve your problems

Every day is a gift..That's why it's called the present.
What everyone above said. And for our BT emails and the-gallaghers emails I go onto their webmail and block stuff at source so it doesn't download to Outlook locally at all.

My advice is worth no more than the price paid for it

I have been doing that for the last week or so. However what I have noticed is that even adding the originating e-mail address to the banned list some of them still get through. I think that BTYahoo is pretty good at recognising spam posts but not always so good at filtering them out once banned, not sure why.

If the subject title is changed slightly and/or the origination address is different then it will not be recognised as spam.
