Ah Bob, I think you've just frightened several potential clients from booking their Hurtigruten cruise with your '' Like a Mirror '' picture. It's no reflection on you though ( Geddit)
However, with close observation I don't think that is the said ship, looks like a fishing boat to me ( isn't it ? )

Rob

Must say I am interested in the Hurtigruten working ship trip - 12 days.

Wondering if I should book excursions or just wander about the ports?

Will also need advice on cabin type and add ons. Do the company offer advice if you phone?

Was thinking about an October or November trip.

Any tips / advice very gratefully received.

You don't have to book all the excursions. We only did North Cape, the sea eagles and the excursion over the Eagle Road.
Because both Trondheim and Tromso are small, we didn't bother with the guided tours.
Remember it is a working boat and some of the docking can be for as little as 20 minutes, if you go ashore the boat leaves exactly on time, with or without you.
Try for cabins on the top decks toward the rear as these are likely to be less disturbed by the port activity.
Take a box of wine as hand luggage, Norwegian alcohol prices are eye popping.

Many thanks Stuart.

Will bear these in mind.

Will bring a bottle of Malt too. As an antidote to seasickness of course.

I've been to Stavanger previously and can vouch for the prices. I got the message when I checked out the cruise add on for two beers per day. 😱😢

Keep your take on board alcohol out of sight, rumour has it that if you are seen with it it will be confiscated!

Well, the Hurtigruten is a working boat apparently so could be similar

With a name like his, there is no fear of drowning.

Just back from our adventure with Hurtigruten.

It was fantastic. Joined MS Nordnorge at Bergen and cruised up the Norweigen Fjords to Tromso. Ride on the most northern tram in the world in Trondheim was great as was the city itself. Started snowing as we crossed the arctic circle (arctic circle ceremony was great fun), left the ship staying overnight in snowy, beautiful Tromso then flying to Longyearbyen in Spitzbergen.

Bitterly cold, very, very dry in Longyearbyen whith snowy mountain tops but only a sprinkle of snow the whole time we were there. Dog sledding on wheels was fantastic with BBQ lunch on the hillside overlooking the mountains. Boat trip to Barrentsburg (russian mining settlement with quite a bit of the coal coming to the UK) was surreal and the locally brewed beer is good. Had whale & salmon for lunch that day as well as fresh waffles on the boat

The days at this time of year don't get lighter than dusk at midday and we didn't manage to see much wildlife - too dark! Weather was against us to see the Northern lights, cloudy, foggy & snowy but never mind. I've got an excuse to carry on travelling to try and see them

p.s Don't forget your gun in Longyearbyen. It's the law to carry (and be proficient with it!) if you go wandering beyond the city limits because of the polar bears.

Glad you enjoyed your holiday in one of my favourite countries! We are going again next year, our fourth round trip, I was ill most of last year with breast cancer, now over it with the 'all clear' confirmed & recovered from the hateful treatment, so my treat is another Hurtugruten voyage, can't wait. Once you get the Norway bug it's hard to ignore!
