No excuse for rudeness, but if hot food orders finish at two then it might have been better to get the order in and get the caller to phone back in a couple of minutes. The kitchen staff are probably allocated a certain amount of time to clean everything away and if they start another late order they would end up working in their own time. If they did try to rush and prepare a hot meal they might get criticised if the food wasn't as good as usual. It is not nice to have to tell someone they are too late.

My local village innkeeper used to leave half a loaf of bread and a glass of wine on a table outside the pub and when I asked him why he told me that in order to be called an 'Inn' he had to provide food and drink to passing travellers.

Mind you, after a shower of rain it was only fit for drunken sparrows!

Wow...I've got an apology from the landlord and he has asked me to call him to discuss the incident.

So as I suspected the person who was 'off' with us was a manager rather than the landlord.

See now I am more inclined to revisit (of course I'll check and see who is on the bar though).

I emailed him back and said I didn't want any confrontational conversation but was happy that he had been in touch and acknowledged that there was an issue. I'm happy that he didn't ignore it.

Once bitten and all that.

There are now so many lovely places with highly trained polite, professional staff that I don't need to waste my precious leisure time where I am not made to feel welcome.

THe Landlord/ owner has come back to me and apologised for his staffs attitude and said that they didn't mean to appear rude. The chap I saw looked like Ross Kemp (actor) and he was really ride and sarcastic.

The owner has asked me to go in and give them another chance.

Fair enough, this man values his reputation and business.
