I'm with TalkTalk, pay £20 a month for unlimited broadband and line rental (no calls included) and a sim card with 200mins, 500mb data, and unlimited texts, that my wife uses. Only use the landline for incoming calls as I've got more minutes than I'll ever use on my mobile.
Works fine, no problems

Thanks for all the insights! PlusNet it is for the fibre service plus theyre doing a good deal on SIM only mobile packages which we hope to benefit from - we've swapped to an evening and weekend landline package on basis we can use the mobiles more. We've been with Plusnet on the regular broadband which has been ok so hopefully the fibre will be reliable too. Fingers crossed for a smooth transition :-)

DD is happy w them.

I would have thought if you're already with them on ordinary broadband, it should go smoothly. AFAIK they just have to connect the copper bit to your house with the fibre in the nearest green street cabinet.

Good luck.

My advice is worth no more than the price paid for it

Thanks for that info, it has given me ideas. I have been wondering for a long time if I could get away without having a landline but because I receive important calls on it, it is really a necessity because just having a mobile would cost people a fortune to phone me. I also need the internet of course and a mobile phone isn't really suitable for full time access.

Since I have just signed up to a mobile contract but rarely use the mobile it seems a good idea to cancel the phone package deal and just have it for incoming calls and broadband, then use my mobile to call out.

I will have to work out the figures but it could prove cheaper

As someone else said, there are probably good and bad experiences with all the providers. A lot depends on luck. We've had cable in this area for so many years I can't remember. First with Cable-Tel, then NTL, then Virgin, and have had very few problems. Others have had a completely different experience.

My mobile is with Virgin too, and it suits me perfectly but it wouldn't suit others. No free calls on my mobile, in fact they are relatively expensive, but as I use it mainly for incoming calls while I am out, that isn't a problem. It's on a deal I doubt they offer anymore. It's technically PAYG, but I pay just for any calls I make by monthly direct debit. Generally costs me less than £10 a year! It's a Nokia 6210 that I've had for years and still works perfectly. Gets a signal where modern phones generally don't, and a 10 minute charge in the car lasts me a week.

Everyone's needs are different, so there is no perfect package to suit all.

Best Regards,
Colin

Virgin was NTL when i first joind many years ago.
Had more problems with there mobile service which is crap. as far as i am concerned.

Funny old world but I was having loads of drop outs with our BT broadband, they said it was at our end and I would need to get an engineer out. We went with ntl and it never happened again, this was pre fibre days.

I've not had them for mobile
