Great article on telly this morning about the driverless bus in Germany............That has a standby driver. 😳😳

Nearly as logical as the Electric Car than you can charge up at night and sell the power back to the grid during the day.🙄🙄

It must be me, as the great Terry Wogan used to say.

Early tech requires an element of human intervention so no surprise it needs a driver at the moment.

The charged electric car used as a battery to serve the grid is already happening.

V2G Denmark has info.

So let me get this right. I charge my EV overnight, then decide I don’t need to use it, so put that power back into the grid............Then later in the afternoon, for whatever reason, I NEED to use my car, possible emergency, and I can’t because I have just put it back on charge having just discharged it, having charged it the previous night.

Logic please.

For the logic you need to think beyond your current understanding of charging and discharging electric vehicles.

Smart charging is how this will work. Plenty of info out there.

OK, but I want and need a vehicle I can just jump into and drive at any time of the day without fear and fully confident that I will not run out of fuel.

They are telling us how many miles we can expect from a full charge which is obviously during daylight hours but nobody has yet posed the question to the vehicle makers as to how far we can expect to travel at night. Having the headlights switched on is going to consume excess battery power so the miles is going to be drastically reduced which is not such a good option to switch over to electric vehicles for those who work on regular night shifts. Not only is it an inconvenience but will cost more having to re-charge more frequently.
There are are still a lot of unanswered questions regarding electric powered vehicles.

Lighting will have as much effect on range as they do on mpg in a petrol/diesel powered car.

Modern LEDs use very little power 4-10w per hour.

So said the bloke(presumably in French)on the horse & cart in 1770 when he watched Cugnot shovel coal into his newly invented steam carriage, light the coal & then wait for the steam to build up...

Probably not too many places to buy coal in 1770s France but a horse can eat grass anywhere...
