We use D locks and secure that to the van or a very big tree! Our insurance says we need to use D-locks or we wont be covered.

In Europe we notice that people tend to leave bikes unsecured on campsites - last night there were 2 sets of electric bikes (both Dutch) just propped on fences on our campsite. However, we always lock for insurance reasons.

Good D-locks and if chaining up by a cafe etc we make sure they are in a very visible place. If leaving for any length of time we take off the display clocks as the electric doesn't work without them (you could take the battery off too).

I was actually about to ask this but we will be travelling with a tent and trailer. The tent is huge (6m bell) so I guess we can have them in there if out without them during the day but otherwise it would have to be in the trailer or partially disassembled in the car I guess?

We will have 2 adult bikes, our 3 year olds Islabike and a thule chariot cougar so quite a lot to stash away :-/

It makes we wonder what sort of sites some folk use.
The only thing i have ever had swiped off a site, was a tap connector. And thats because i left it on the tap by mistake.
And this was in France, but ironically, the prime suspect was a motorhome from the UK.

Otherwise, we've left all sorts lying about to no detriment. Though i do shackle the bikes together overnight. Pinch one, and you have to manhandle two together - not easy.
