I have walked across that bridge about 4 times now, all I can say is if you have been across in a barge and you where fine then walking over it wont be anywhere near as bad! the hand rail is more like scaffolding poles to just above waist height, the path isn't very wide and we had bikes and a bike trailer with the dogs in to get across, which was just about possible. to be honest with you tho, apart from going to the pub and watching the narrow boats moving there isn't really much reason to have to cross it if you have a problem you wont be missing much as you can see the view just aswell from the start of the bridge either side

My advice to OP, having managed to cope with a long swing bridge in NZ - focus far ahead on the distance, where you're headed to, hand lightly on the rail: your destination will get closer with every step. I was able to stop in the middle of the NZ bridge, turn and hold the high rail to look far down at the river below (amazing view). It was a swing bridge, it swung - the canal bridge won't do that.
It'll be worth it, really it will.

I have done that one Fiona, an Aussie guy froze halfway across and had to crawl, much to his wife’s disgust and embarrassment.

I have a fear of heights, open railings, stairs etc and was not looking forward to going over it but I did it pushing my bike, it was a very windy day, I didn't look over the side just kept looking at the canal until I got across. I also came back across too and lived to tell the tale although had 2 glasses of wine in Llangollen for Dutch courage. The railings are waist height. It's a nice walk/cycle from lady Margarets park cc site to Llangollen. Enjoy it and try not to think about it too much, head down and walk or even run across.

Thanks everyone, we walked across it last Friday in glorious sunshine, no wind and I was fine, actually enjoyed myself!
I'm like Fiona, it's a fear of falling, so if I can't fall I'm okay.
My OH took a really interesting photo of our shadows 120 feet below us.
