Terrific thunderstorm here in Hertfordshire last night, nice this morning, fantastic afternoon, now it's thundering and raining again. We got home from a fun dog show at the rescue where we got our dog around 7pm. Just in time it would seem!
We are in Betws-y-Coed and had hours of thunder, lightning and torrential rain this morning, a few dry hours over the early afternoon and then thunder, lightning and more torrential rain from about 3pm until about an hour ago!
I have literally never experienced anything like this!
Wow - Wirral didn't get the morning dose, at least not where I was, but had some good fireworks late afternoon/early evening. Apologies to people (and pets) who don't like thunder! I suppose in Betws it would make a change from the low-flying jets... I should add that my favourite site is near Betws, though. (Rynys)
The thunderstorms are always louder and more torrential in Betwsy due to the valley acting like a loudspeaker as the soundwaves bounce off the rock faces and its close proximity to Capel Curig, one of the wettest places in the Uk as far as rainfall is concerned.
The same applies to the Conwy Valley and the high winds that howl down it, even when the weather is comparatively calm in the town centres.
