Backpacking in France I would take
Walking boots
A pair of lightweight multi-tasking sandals, maybe Birkies or similiar.

Home journey:
Early flight with extra baggage allowance for French shoes and handbags.

Ewan, surely your rucksack has an extra compartment for ‘acquired on way’ purchases? If not that sounds like a great excuse to buy a new one.....

Another Reef flip flop wearer here! The canvas toe post makes them the comfiest flip flops and I have had a few different brands.
I wear them as often as I can through summer but not for driving.
Caravanning, tent camping or at home they are hard to beat.
I also pack a pair of trainers and a pair of casual shoes.

This made me laugh as in our household it is my husband who needs to be kept an eye on when it comes to packing shoes, not me! He must have been a former Boy Scout and always has to be prepared, therefore he takes shoes and boots for every conceivable weather. I usually do the packing but no matter what I pack, I always find several more pairs hidden under the car seats once we have set off.

However, we are currently on our way home from a couple of weeks in the New Forest where I took 1 pair of sandals, one pair of vented trainers for cycling and my walking boots! The sandals broke in the first few days and I spent the rest of the holiday with very hot feet! I won’t say that my husband looked smug, but he certainly had that ‘I told you so’ look on his face!

There is no chance of buying any of my shoes on the highstreet due to my severely swollen feet, l have them specially made to fit, or buy from companies such as Cosy feet who sell upto 8E width fittings with full velcro adjustment and deep toeboxes. So l make sure that l take about 4 pairs with me, one fabric slipper type, one Sandal for summer use, one sturdy leather weatherproof winter type shoe, and a pairof Crocs that have been snipped open centre front to make them wider, which l use to stand in the shower.

My OH has three pairs of shoes that perminently live in the caravan, one pair of Trainers, one pair of smart shoes for restaurant wear, and a pair of Leather slippers, plus the essential pair of shower Crocs!

We do have a bit of a habit of stashing piles of clean towels on the wardrobe shelves though, and putting even more in when we go away next time without realising it, at the end of last season we must have brought about 18 of them back into the house when we put our van to bed for the winter!

One pair of Birkenstock sandals and a pair of Skechers go walks - does me proud for the whole summer.

OH - one pair trainers, one pair of Skechers go walk and one pair of formal shoes that never come out of the shoe cupboard!

Anyway, I thought the whole point of a caravan instead of a tent was to have cubby holes and storage for things like shoes?

There have to be some advantages, surely?

Nah...the cubby holes are where you stash the money for all the repairs caravans need...or is that in the hollow soles of the shoes?

...or do you mean these cubby holes?

Camping I usually only take a couple of pairs of hiking boots (a low ankle & a high ankle boot) plus my pair of Dutch clogs for about the site - only wear shoes for work & 'posh' nights out.

Well, I counted eleven pairs of my wife's shoes were loaded into the caravan.

I have just discovered another two pairs in boxes which were smuggled aboard before I noticed.

So that makes thirteen pairs to be dragged round France.

Is this a record? or do you take more?

I have three pairs which is probably two more than I need.

Surely this is ample grounds for divorce?

Amongst many others.

I have made copious notes over the years.

Come the judgement day, I will be prepared.
