We have tried both and think they are over priced taking into consideration how many sites you visit in a year. We are not bothered with homes and castles as they are two a penny and once you have seen one, you have seen them all. We like exploring Roman ruins as find them a lot more interesting.

Depends what you're interested in. We don't visit Roman ruins - after all, when you've seen one.............

It's not just the architecture of stately homes or castles that interests us, but the story of the families who have lived there. There's also the grounds and gardens.
As for the cost, some I do think are over priced, but over the year, it works out remarkably good value. And don't forget about the free car parking in many locations.

Each to their own. I'm a landscape historian, OH is an architect, so every house and every garden is different & interesting for us. It's the Roman ruins that look the same! but we have few above ground ruins up here: hard to get excited about the mounds of a Roman camp in a field.

I find both are extremely good value for money.
We have visited 62 NT sites in the last two years and at least the same number of EH sites spread over the last five years

I find NT membership worthwhile to support the work they do here in Cornwall maintaining footpaths and countryside trails. When visiting their car parks you scan your card and park free which is a £4 saving at some sites. Their website is excellent so there is no need for the handbook these days. I make sure I use my vote each year online when their AGM takes place. Some people left the NT in protest at the hunting on Trust land issue. I prefer to remain a member and use my vote.

Pat is a disabled member of scotland and pensioner. She gets in all the sites south of the border and I get in free as her carer.

Here's two more that find NT membership worthwhile, wonderful properties, coast walking, countryside walking, parkland, gardens, holiday activities for the grandchildren, wonderful old fashioned christmas tide, free buggy rides for disabled, exhibitions, parking, and its charitable giving.

We belong to English Heritage as well, love the ruined properties, take the grandchildren for battle re enactments and history themes.

Once took 1 grandchild and three adults to Peppa pig world....cost us more for one visit than NT membership for whole year (and more)!

I can believe that! Our twins are now 16 years old and have to pay adult price for everything despite being legally classed as children and entirely financial dependent on us!

I'd forgotten the free car parking with NT - costs stack up in the Lake District if you enjoy walking on NT land & they seem to own an extensive area there. Culzean Country Park here in Ayrshire is the dog's favourite place to walk, it's a huge coastal estate. Entry for a family is £32.25 including going round the house perched on the cliff, or £26.25 if you just want to do lots of walking or use the massive play area. It only takes a couple of visits to make membership worthwhile.
