Go, go, go.

I have been to Australia four times, and traveled around that vast but fantastic country. My wife and I both agree, that if we were starting out again our future would not be here.

My kids would most definitely get the thumbs up if they decided to emigrate............There is no future here!

I had a similar dilemma, being a industrial plumber/pipefitter. The work in this country was increasingly difficult to find, moving all over the country to find work.
But out of the blue, a opportunity came my way, Saudi Arabia, everybody I knew said don't take the job? But I did, it was the best thing that happened to me, I never looked back. Its not easy working abroad, I was 28, I know younger than you, I was courting, didn't meet her again for 6 months, but clicked, we got married, she came out to Saudi with me.It was a bit primitive where we were, bugs, cockroaches etc. Things did improve.
We are still together in our 70,s, and through my work, travelled the world, all paid by the firms I worked for.
Go for it or you will regret it, wondering if only I had taken the opportunity, you can always return here, Good luck

It’s easy to look at places like Australia, Canada etc with rose tinted glasses. New surroundings quickly become normal, you still have to work, shop, do all the mundane things. Folk are quick to point out the faults in the UK, but it has its positives. Yes, it’s expensive & frustrating sometimes but it’s not all overcrowded & full of slackers. I loved Australia, we travelled around it & if I had to settle anywhere it would have been Brisbane. But, & it’s a big but, I wouldn’t move there. Sorry, but wanted add some balance to this. I love travelling but equally, I love getting back to the UK.

My in laws still regularly fly & they're both well into their 80s

Thank you again all for your support, apologies I've been off here for a while.

Plenty to think about and read though, some great responses here from lovely genuine people. Then again I'd expect nothing less from this forum.

I have never met a Kiwi that does like Australia! Far more people die in this country due to knives, than are killed by “things” in Australia, and as for racists...............What a load of tosh!

I have traveled both NZ and Australia, N and S NZ, and every state in Australia, have friends who have made the move in WA, Vic, SA, QLD and NSW, and none of them would ever come back.

Between the two Australia wins hands down, it has s p a c e and freedom, the like of which we just don’t have over here, and I am speaking as a country boy, not a townie.

If, and I wish I was 40 years younger, I did move to Australia, it would be WA, the area some 3 to 4 hours south of Perth. Absolutely stunning, not for the city/townie, but wonderful scenery, amazing beaches and coast, and superb climate. Norther Victoria is also an amazing place, the mighty Murray and the Snowy Mountains.

Most people who visit Australia go to the major cities or surfers paradise, but believe me, there is much, much more to that country.

...............If I had my time again!

Sorry to sound a bit negative but success in Australia might depend on what sort of personality you have and how thick skinned you are. My next door neighbours brother went several years ago, but has stayed but found it difficult as he was customer facing and some customers refused point blank to speak to him because of his English accent! The husband of one of my staff worked for an Australian company he in the UK and he was always being asked to go out and work there. Eventually he went but having moved into a supervisory role compared to what he did in the UK he couldn't accept the way he was expected to treat staff which was so different to the British was of doing things! If you think you can manage such things why not give it a try?

Fact! 50% of people who go to Aussie return to UK so you always have that open to you. Having been there I would give it a go. Good luck.
