Well done ZigZag. I got exhausted just reading your activity. Had to lie down to rest.

I used to be a good long distance runner in my day but ended up with lower back problems. I still walk miles when away camping but have recently developed sciatica in one leg so not sure if I can walk too far now.

The other day I was in our doctors surgery when a cyclist staggered in asking to see a doctor because he had sustained some nasty cuts and bruises having fallen off his bike.

It seems to me that all this fitness stuff is killing people! Ask yourself why a tortoise lives so long

We have been retired 5 years now. I took early retirement butgot my state pension last year, wife just had first payment.
Our work place pensions and savings enabled us to retire early. No regrets!
Now on our second trip of the year to France came over Wednesday. Enjoying warm sunshine in Dordogne area, campsite has plenty of space and ACSI back.
Its hell.

I retried last November after putting a new damp course in the house etc I got bored and went and got a job as a porter in my local hospital i’m sometimes working more hours than my last job but find it more enjoyable so maybe retirement not for everyone but but being on a shift system means I only have to put 4 days holiday in to get a fortnight holiday away in my caravan

To ZIG ZAG and other well-retired folks: At the risk of my grandchildren saying 'stop bragging' Grandpa,I had one running challenge on my 'bucket list'. At 65 I ran the whole of the SW Coast path - 630 miles in 23 days (27 miles and 4,000 feet per day) for Cancer Research, raising £6000 - (mainly from peeps who said they would only pay up if I completed it ...) Note I wasn't considered 'an athlete' having been a 60 a day smoker into my late 30's. Some kind person has said that I still hold the world record for over 65's ... I suspect it is because no one else of my age has been stupid enough to attempt it. Incidently had a great support team (my wife and a pal as driver meeting me with water and food wherever they could in our trusty campervan.)
Suffice to say I spent a lot of the first year of retirement simply training - jogging & running for up to 6 hours a day - something couldn't be done whilst still 'enjoying myself' at work.
Now some 9 years later I just take the dog on long walks - knees still one piece btw, ... sitting in the evening sunshine at Normans Bay site ... with a glass of wine and doggie at my feet! Cheers!

Well done iggycamper
Brilliant achievement for all you done ,you certainly excelled yourself all that endurance and stamina running .
You had the will power and dedication to attain and complete all the challenges before you .
I think you were given the gift of running to help those more unfortunate .
The £6000 was a fantastic amount to raise for such a worthy cause Cancer Research .
I have every admiration for what you have done .
I wish you Good Health .
And enjoy your retirement .
As you have got the "T-shirts and been there and done It" .
Zizag .

Thanks ZIGZAG. Your comments are much appreciated by this Geratric Jogger!

... edit Please forgive me - like other old folks on this forum I inadvertently called you ZIGZAG instead of ZIZAG. Guess I had too many G strings on me' guitar?

Hello iggycamper.
There is a bit of a story about my Zizag name .
It was Zigzag on a running forum years ago .
As I used to zigzag in and out of runners in the last mile trying to get in front and get a higher finishing place and kudos .

Then somebody on another of the many forums Nicked my name
So as I liked the Name I dropped the (G) to Zizag .
All good fun .
