It is true that Plusnet is part of BT and John Lewis use the Plusnet systems. However, they are run as separate companies. Both have UK call centres where most of them speak English and in my experience are very helpful if help is required. In my experience all internet providers seem to have teething problems when you first sign up to them but when I was with BT the problems persisted for the full 18 months...an absolute nightmare.
I am now with John Lewis and it has had a few hiccups along the way but they always provide what they say they are going to provide and charge what they say they are going to charge. I have been with them now for 3 years which is a record for me so they must be doing something right - lol.
I was with BT for ever since I can remember ... until a month ago ...
The service was OK ... their router is probably the best on the market (Which?) ...
I switched to John Lewis four weeks ago ... because it was significantly cheaper ... kept my BT Router ... and it all works as before .... no better, no worse ... BUT ... cheaper ... result!
Must say the JL customer support, whilst I was setting up was instant, and excellent.
I have just read that android phones don't recognise special characters, I have put a * in mine. Is this correct does anyone know? Before I change it again...emails still not on my phone.

You don't need to be with BT, or to have been with them, to use their router. You can buy them on ebay. Most routers provided by ISPs are tripe, but those by BT are generally OK, unlike their service. My ISP sold routers as an optional extra and I bought a Technicolor and it has been fine. These routers only ever have four Ethernet ports though - not enough for me.

I hadn't until now. Need to stay with them for BT sports. They asked the security question wrongly! But why my account was compromised in the first place is anyone's guess.
You get BT sports as part of the Virginmedia TV services. Their broadband also knocks BT’s into a cocked hat!
Well said saxo1, and Starlink will knock them all into cocked hat, when that service gets rolled out to the whole wide world in a short few years from now.

Who you using while you wait? I'm guessing you are not one of the 'gullible' ones you mentioned.
I think Francais has shares in Starlink. I have noticed there is an OTT avid fan of Musk and his doings on several other forums I frequent, and I'm wondering if there is an astroturfing campaign going on.
I've been with BT forever and yes, had some problems that have taken some months to resolve but they have all resulted well in the end, most notably one year's free rental and on another occasion a yer's free unlimited broadband. I only use them for landline (essential here) and internet. Virgin Media may be great but it'll be next century, if ever, if we get that!

My late mother had BT broadband they contacted her saying she owed them £10 bill, she checked over and over couldn't figure out where she owed them this cash. After she passed away I closed the account and they sent me £90 that had been overpaid.

My soloution is use a comparison site, moneysavingexpert etc, and dump your providers, REGULARLY.
I check comparison sites for everything possible, always at least 3 each time, but I only change providers if the saving is worthwhile. I have been with Virgin Media for years, and I haven't changed my energy provider for ages either, but this is only because nobody can beat them. I have changed insurance providers many times though, particularly car insurance.
BT works for me as I cannot get Virgin living out in the sticks and they have given me fibre which has doubled my speed at no extra cost for 24 months.
