I have just cancelled a week long holiday to a cottage in Applecross. A few friends (from UKCS) and I booked it a year ago and have been excited about it since.
We just can't justify going, it is not a necessary journey, we can try to spin it however we want but in the end we've cancelled it.
We all have a personal responsibility to try to minimise the spread of this virus. We don't expect to get a penny of the rental fee back but my conscience is clear that I haven't introduced my 'big city germs' to a small village which, so far, in untouched by the virus........such a hard decision.
Thanks for your thoughtfulness, the biz, I know how important your "fixes" in the Highlands and Islands are to you!

Thanks Ficklejade. Now not thinking of Scotland atm, maybe later in the year.
I think you're being sensible, Mrs Bonce, so hopefully later - Scotland is more than well worth a visit (or several as you can't visit all of it in one go unless you've got months)!

Sense will prevail.
That really isnt very helpful - the govt. is advising no essential travel for a reason. The nhs is not going to be able to cope and people will die - not just because people have covid-19 but because they are taking up ventilators that could be used for others.
There are no cases at the moment but encouraging people to visit they will start and then multiply the rates of growth are extreme. Look at what has happened in Italy and Spain.
This isnt tabloid bait - its coming from our govt. scientists and chief medical advisors - people ignoring govt. advice and doing their own thing and encouraging others will increase others suffering !!
Apologies Katieep. I address my own anxiety levels by staying positive, keeping things in perspective & actively avoiding situations that stress me out. I had no intention of causing offence, anger, or any other negative feeling.
So I have decided to self isolate / socially distance myself from the virus related threads on UKCS from now on. Safer that way.
Stay well, everyone. Have a good camping holiday, when the right time comes.
I've just received a note from the CAMC basically saying that they're open for business. Pubs & clubs will be closed and extra hygiene measures will be in place. Cancelling or changing bookings will be easier.

I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.
weve just been put on reduced hours for the foreseeable future due to absence and help stopping the spread of potential infection.
financially though I was on the borderline anyway but always scraped by, now im absolutely screwed. theres no way I can now meet my commitments without going overdrawn. But that said folk are going through worse at the moment so I shouldn't really complain
