Me I won’t make any bones of it I hate Amazon, I have links to transport so I have valid reasons.

Yeah, the internet is fantastic isnt it? I avoid ebay but this year have ordered online from Nike, M&S, etc etc, all brilliant. I reckon I've done substantially more online purchases in the last couple of years (of non groceries) than in shops, but had substantially more problems with the stuff I've bought from shops.

These arent scams, its people nicking stuff.

The high street destroyed itself as much as Amazon etc are destroying it. Council parking charges can easily hit £10 for a days shopping, alternatively, going by train (if its running, runs on time, isnt overcrowded and they arent on strike) over £30 for the three of us, plus parking at the station. A quick pint is out of the question now (price), but you gotta eat. Going shopping alone can easily cost £50 before you buy anything.

My local town - free parking and a great butchers, hardware shop, greasy spoons, charity shops - is brilliant but useless if I want to buy a telly. Or clothes. Early next year the middle of town will have no post office. The only bank left is Lloyds (I dont know if its still open).

Wife bought trainers in a high street shop - fell apart in 2 months - shop wouldnt exchange/refund. On Amazon it would have been simple.

I bought a remote control car a few years ago on Amazon it failed in less than a year and the seller (through Amazon) wouldnt refund - Amazon customer service sorted it out in less than an hour.

Bought a bathroom cabinet in Ikea, I'd say 10 years ago, mirror doors didnt fit.   Had to drive all the way back to Bristol to get it sorted. On Amazon, (or even Ikea online) would have been sorted from home.

Went in Barclays bank Frome the other day - they told us to do what we needed to do would be easier online. The branch closes in January I believe.

Christmas presents? Cheaper and guaranteed availability on Amazon without taking a day off to spend a fortune getting into Bath and traipsing round it getting progressively more miserable.

Never had a problem sorting a problem - and I buy loads of stuff off Amazon - I suspect it might be because I've got prime?

Fantastic post, I completely agree.

We have been trying over the last 4 months to support our local stores and I'm afraid I'm done and going back to Amazon. We have spent hours trying to get simple items from our local shops when it takes minutes to order online. The items faulty it's a trip back, stand in a queue and having to fill out a form or deal with a snooty assistant.

The final I'm done issues were: we wanted long bolts to hold cupboard on the wall, we went to the local hardware store no stock, travelled to B&Q no stock but, they will be in stock at our other store. We travelled to the other store! None on the shelf, their stock system wouldn't work to check them. Came home ordered on Amazon, they arrived the next day.

Then, we ordered new blinds in a local shop. One arrived fine, the other was bent. We had paid when we ordered so they insisted we had to take the faulty one and then return it for a swap in two days when the replacement they had already ordered (efficient at least) arrived. A firm discussion of how we weren't doing that went on before they agreed to keep the faulty one in store marked as uncollected. We had to return two days later taking another couple of hours. that was 3 trips and 6 hours for one simple purchase.

Then we went into the city for some shopping and a meal 4.5 hours parking £19.60 .

We have given up and returned to online shopping, any issues we have had with Amazon have been quickly sorted. Two years ago we has £200 worth of shopping from Lakeland stolen or lost in transit again, it was sorted quickly.
