My camping ‘fresh air for the brain’ lasts all year. When I can’t sleep during my busy life, I imagine I am in my tent. Silence, cold air, maybe a gentle patter of light rain on the cotton canvas. I changed from a poly tent to cotton canvas because I find it aesthetically pleasing and enjoy the feeling more.
The campsites I choose, whether with friends or when I camp in my own, are as far from road noise as I can manage. Wild-style back to basics. No EHU. Plenty of space for tents to be distant from each other. We cook over the fire. No attempt to recreate ‘the comforts of home’. Sit out, round the fire. Under a tarp if properly raining.
I find this very replenishing.
Days: walk / swim (sea, lake, river) / walk. Preferably up big hills.
Food: we tend to cook simple but good fresh food. Not tins or processed. And in a big nod to health have ditched our massive fry up
Breakfasts maybe eggs scrambled with a bit of smoked salmon! And clementines.
And try to drink a bit less round the campfire. Maybe.

Think I've reached an age where I'm more interested in enjoying my time left, than extending it in healthy purgatory by excluding the 'unhealthy' pleasures of a good old F.E.B., maybe a little too much booze etc. Life's for living and enjoying whilst you can IMHO, don't have to be on a suicide mission of unhealthiness, but can't be depriving myself in a hope of living forever, it'll only be another 15-20 years at best, but it COULD be made to seem a LOT longer without the enjoyment!
Oh I am definitely not one to live with any form of purgatory before I have no choice! We cook and eat things we love! And have the time to enjoy the cooking process while camping, and dinner with a wonderful view.
MrsBonce: mushrooms, tomatoes, baked beans, v healthy! Big pile of sausages, bacon, fried egg, maybe challenges the arteries a bit, but if it’s not every day, who’s to worry? Enjoyment is important to wellbeing too.
