there were traffic lights at the 3 way junction this AM on the main road into Cheddar... normally a larger car boot sale on the other side of the village on Sundays as well, i was walking the dogs, queue's were building and a few hooters were being blown, i had by now gone down by the cycle path and could hear the engineers chatting[new power cable being installed via telegraph poles] there was an engineer up the pole and then a rather impatient driver decided to rap his horn several times,,, i heard the pole man, at the top of his voice telling the driver to stick his horn up......... [in French i assume!!! ] in no uncertain terms.... made me chuckle
------------- That's not a dog....... That's a Schnauzer
I hope no one gets held up by the snow this week.
My usual detours are about 60 miles, after road closures caused by landslides in Argyll or flooding after heavy rain in Dumfries & Galloway, but at least traffic is moving. Being at a dead stop for ages is frustrating, though we’ve been known to make sandwiches if we’re in the MH.
Obviously we didn't know how long we would be held up, but if we had had water we were considering making tea. A man with a van opposite had biscuits... OH had quite a conversation with him in the middle of the road. Man with van was not happy as he was only there because his wife asked him to fetch something.
They do have a tendency to close on "Health and Safety" grounds. The best (oddest) I experienced recently was a road closure outside my own house, with an eight, yes 8 mile diversion. A manhole cover had collapsed at the side of a one mile stretch of normal country road, requiring the cover to be coned off. The road normally allowed trucks to easily pass each other. The whole thing was the size of a parked moped at the side of the road. Unfortunately (!) the road closed signs got run over shortly after they were erected by a passing John Deere tractor or three. Based on the council's logic we will soon need temporary traffic lights if we break down and have to wait for the AA.
