it's simple to explain, wages have gone through the roof & so hasthe cost of car parts.
if you want anything fixing on cars these days it's going to cost.

i've just seen an advert for commercial trailer fitter in Manchester and the salary is 53k, 3 years ago this would of been 30k

However by the same token, if the annual premium is for instance £400 and the insurance company has a million customers, that is a lot of dosh annually as only a small percentage of those subscribers will probably make a claim in that year!

True my house insurance has just come through and that's up by about 30%

The big problem is that not everyone's incomes have gone up by anything like that amount. Most low to medium income families have seen their REAL incomes fall for many successive years now, even though they may have had rises. "Keeping up with inflation" is not the same thing as keeping up with the REAL cost of living, far from it.
