Although they sometimes advertise as Temu UK, it is a Chinese company with mailing addresses in the UK and the USA. The goods are manufactured in China and despatched from China.
By buying from them you are helping to increase unemployment in the UK and increase the finance and power of China.

I think its a bit late for that sitting in my office now, my phone, laptop, monitor, clock, fan & Heater are all made in China even my 20 & 25 year award models are made in china.
The UK has been buying products in mass from china for at least the last 40 / 50 years.

I worked for a small company involved in the testing of aerospace materials usually turbine blades for several companies and Universities and even Rolls Royce. The company took delivery of "steel" from China to make test pieces for testing, after complaints from the machinists the "steel" was rejected and returned to supplier never to be seen again.

Britain was once a great proud nation that initially invented, manufactured and supplied goods to the rest of the world which was the start of the great industrial revolution. Steam locomotives, the electric light bulb and televisions are amongst the list that were sold to other countries around the world but as the years went by, many British firms were slowly going into liquidation which the motor cycle and car industries were victims of that slow decline. British companies amalgamated in order to try and survive but eventually all was lost to Japanese imports that took over and dominated the market in the 1970's with other European and far eastern companies following suit. However, it begs the question as to how did Britain lose it's way so bad over the past 50 years and get it all so badly wrong?

Exactly why we, and other Western nations have high unemployment. People in the West want to buy as cheaper as possible, but also want the highest possible wage which then makes Western goods expensive. I cna hear the merry go around!

It is not just higher wages in Western nations; they also have higher safety and environmental standards to comply with which adds to production cost, which are some of the reasons why the more dirty/hazardous industries have moved out and into the other countries where life is cheaper and plentiful, etc. etc...

All IMHO.

Temu is one of many marketplace aggregators. Basically an onljne store for many sellers, they are usually based abroad.

If you order, it turns up and it is to the quality you were promised all fine and dandy.

If you order, it doesn't turn up, it isn't what you ordered, it is of poor quality, or you end up with an import tax charge getting money back or customer service to solve any issues may not be so easy.

Similar warnings apply to many of the online travel sites such as Skyscanner, booking.com, hotels, com, Trainline etc. Setting up a company and immediately having a potential customer base of billions is easy, delivering the promise to millions of customers isn't and the tales of woe I read from users of travel site aggregators are a red flag to me so I don't use them.

The safest way is to buy from known outlet with a UK presence and operating under English consumer laws. This can be done by simply looking at the 'about us' or 'contact us' pages on the website. If these details aren't there definately avoid the company.

Cant agree re booking.com or trainline. Ive used both for years without a problem. On the former, a hotel is a hotel - the vast majority which can be booked privately through said establishment if you wished. Except through bdc, if theres a problem come the time, you can usually cancel with impunity. Trainline: a train ticket is a train ticket (in the UK), and never has a booking failed me.

The online retail sites being mentioned are totally different. They are 'shop windows' for many retailers, where it can all get a bit murky if things dont go to plan after a buying and receiving something physical. These are places i'd never use for the reasons mentioned. Online from known stores; eg Next, Robert Goddard, Frasers - where there are actual stores in the locality - fine. You cant usually go wrong.

As I said above when everything works fine and dandy.

No need to use Trainline, it puts an agent between you and the train operating company and they charge booking fees. They have also been known to sell tickets which aren't valid.

There's anther merry-go-round here. British working people want the highest possible wage because of the ridiculously high prices here. They also want cheap goods because often that is all they can afford.

I have often said that one company's employees are another company's customers, and what goes around, comes around. Companies want their customers to have plenty of money so that they can buy lots of their goods and/or services, but they then want to pay their employees peanuts.

The prices of British made goods are high because manufacturers need to pay high wages, make a profit to survive plus also make quality goods. Something has to break along the way. The goods from the Far East may not be quality, may not last as long, but they are cheap probably due to using "slave" and child labour?

I have never bought from Temu (for no particular reason), but almost daily I get an email purporting to be from Temu saying I’ve won a “reward”, if I tap something in the email (as if!)
When I forward it (to report it), the email address is: Temu Surprise <nooreply at angimysarm.com>
The others apparently from Temu are from different emails. I’ll block them later.

I had a new winter coat delivered from Temu a couple of weeks ago, its waterproof, windproof and has heated pockets and a heated kidney area, the inside has what seams like a moleskin lining which is very warm to the touch, the rain-hood is substantial with the same lining, for £36 its brilliant.

I already have a heated vest and this coat is to compliment it.

I also ordered some perfect crackling tools for the Christmas pork

There has been some adverse publicity recently about Temu and how some of their goods are sourced from areas of China where Uyghur forced labour might be involved, which would help to explain how the prices can be so low. China's trading tentacles have spread worldwide and we'd struggle to do without their goods now. They'd struggle to do without all the foreign trade too, in the (highly unlikely!) event of a widespread boycott.'Buy British' seems like ancient history... only a minority can afford British-made prices, for reasons stated further up in the thread.

Anyone remember Murphy Televisions made in Uk, BL and Hillman cars or the motorcycles that used bushes instead of propper engine and gearbox bearings, Real quality items that are sorely missed. I dont understand why nobebody wanted to buy them.

This is what I was going to say as well. A lot of these factories are using forced labour.
