No ghosts in my story, but something...strange: when I was a child we lived in a house that I loved very much. After my parents' divorce my mum sold the house and we moved 400 km away.
About fifteen years later my husband and I moved back into the area where I had lived. Some years later I dreamt I was walking through our old house, opening doors, going stairs up and down, into every room. I woke up feeling tears on my cheeks. I hadn't thought about that house for years. It was really disturbing.
The next day I read the newspaper and as it was Saturday and I had time I read the advertisements, too. Only to find that the house of my childhood days was for sale.
We bought it a few weeks later

Years ago my parents hired a Broads boat which had some strange goings on.I was about 12 at the time and it was probably the worst two weeks of my life.

My father was starting the diesel heating system one evening and somebody brushed past him into the front cabin. When he had started the heating he went to the front cabin to see if it was me or my brother,no-one there.

All through the fortnight there was this strange eerie feeling about the boat, day or night.Sliding doors would open, noises the lot.

One night we moored out in the sticks, there was only our boat.During the night a storm came, high winds, rain, thunder and lightning.Me and my brother sat up all night on our beds holding our pen knives.Absolutely bricking it.

When we got back to the boatyard one of the workers asked how our holiday had been and my father asked him if anything had happened on the boat. The chaps smile went from his face and said "I don't want to talk about it" and walked off.

The boat was called Admiral 7 from Broomes at Brundall.I'll never forget.

I've had quite a few strange encounters, I've seen a little girl in my house.

There are many stories regarding the boats of the Norfolk broads, including those of a Ghost ship Galleon complete with full sails that haunts the mists of Oulton Broad at certain times of the year. There is a very good book called 'The Ghosts of the Norfolk Broads' that tells the tales of Ghosts and folk law of the area including that of the 1000 Roman soldiers that march down the main street of the village of Horning on their way to battle, or of the 'Old Shruk' a big black beast of a dog that roams the dark lanes of the countryside and towpaths at night, only to vanish into thin air.

Indeed some of the boats themselves have very long histories and a fair number of tragedies happen on board over the years, resulting in tales of hauntings and superstitions amoungst the boating fraternity.

A friend of mine said he spotted the ghost of Reedham ferry transiting Mutford lock out to sea last week, at first he thought he was dreaming it, but no, it really must have been a Ghost lol!

Yes Eunice l know he does, l was pulling his leg so to speak as his actual ferry has recently transited Oulton broad and out through Mutford Lock down to Lake Lothing for safety checks, servicing and repairs to take place, so hes 'Ferryless' for the next few weeks!

Not quite "Ferryless" Julia, I'm having to work for a living for the next few weeks instead of walking around chatting to people, I've even got my hands dirty this week.
Back to the subject of ghosties, I have seen a couple at the Ferry, a woman stands in one of the windows and there's a little old lady that stands under one of the street lamps on the river bank.

A friend of mine went out with a lad when we were younger. He was driving home one night about 11pm, it was a clear night and visibility was good on the road. He was driving through a small village is South East Sheffield when from nowhere a horse appeared in the road and was running towards the car, he stopped the car quickly and actually put his hands to his head to protect himself he was so sure he horse was going to run into the car but then the horse just disappeared, he was so shaken he had to go to a local house to ring (no mobile phones in those days) his parents as he was unable to drive home.

Been staying at camping ypra near Kemmel just outside Ypres.
Discovered that when site was being laid out some years ago there were many remains of soldiers found who lost their lives during WW1 battles around Ypres. So many in fact that the site owner was told not to report any more finds. The owner believes there were many more remains under the actual pitches. Born out by myself due to the strange sensations I experienced during sleep. Heard much gunfire and screams which occurred during later years even when on different pitches. Other campers were experiencing similar until we decided to hold our own little service of remembrance on site and plannted memorial crosses and poppies at the back of each pitch. Nightly sensations disappeared.
On later visits again others who were not at the earlier remembrance ceremony experienced the sensations but for those of us who had been there earlier had great sleeps with no disturbance.
I always leave a wooded cross and poppy on each visit to remember these lost boys.

Holiday related(Not camping)

Was staying in Bedfordshire in a Private school with a large lake in the grounds....Having asked permission to fish it I borrowed a bike and cycled into town to buy some bait etc...

On the way I spotted an old ruined church on a hill with a long tree covered approach to it...And decided to visit it on my way back....

Lovely warm sunny day so had bought a soft drink and some crisps as a little snack...

Stepped into the church and noticed a lot of whichcraft signs had been painted all over the interior...interested but not unduly upset or worried by this I sat down in one of the old windows to have my drink when suddenly and from nowhere out of a perfectly normal ordinary day came an awful feeling of complete fear and dread...I don't know what it feels like to be in fear of your life...But would say it was akin to this...Shot to my feet literally got on my bike and peddled for all I was worth away from the place...Feeling of dread never left me till I got back on the main road through the tree covered lane....I then had to rest on the grass by the roadside for a while before going home....

Wee footnote to this story...My then girlfriend (wife to be)Asked me what was wrong as my complexion was ashen and I could not stop shaking!!

I don't dwell on this experience...Don't particularly believe in spirits etc...But the memories stay with me over 30yrs on...

Only my experience...Which I thought I would share....

Jelboy.
