There are quite a few of this type of house in Derby, and our daughter went to view one as her very first home. They were asking about half the price of what a small 2 bed terraced house was fetching at the time. With my OH being in the building trade, she was confident that he could repair it for her, or even demolish it and build her a new traditionally built house on the site. The problem was that it was a semi-detached, and the repair had to be done to the entire building, not just the part that she would own.
Most people who live in this type of house do so because they bought them off the council before the problems were discovered, and have lived in them for many years without the need for outside financial assistance involving surveyors ect. Now that most of the original owners are elderly and passing on, a lot more of these type of houses are coming onto the market, some being bought as buy to let for a song, recent one fetched 25k for a 3 bed on a decent sized plot of land. We know the man whos bought it, and hes looking to buy the adjoining one as soon as the elderly man moves into residential care in the next few weeks, the plan then is to demolish and rebuild a more traditionally built replacement

My local council, with a housing association, demolished and rebuilt 450 units of PRC houses. It took a few years to complete the project, and the area is not without its social issues, but the houses are lovely. It was easier and cheaper to demolish and build new houses
Some local authorities do not repair now, they demolish, rebuild and regenerate. Trying to find methods of repair/ rebuild on the unsafe and disintegrating buildings was very difficult to start with.
Mundic build is also a bad build now. The building material can be waste from mines, quarries and beach gravel and is now beginning to decay and crumble. These properties are only available as cash purchases.
Unless you have the finance to rebuild, continually repair, its not worth it. Its all very well saying its a cheap house but when it comes to selling it, it would be a white elephant.
